Homebrew Danling Species Details
Two Worlds, No Home
Often looked down upon by full-blooded humans, danlings do their best to live in human society despite their obvious physical differences. They have some aquatic features that tend to raise an eyebrow or two. Their ears are pointed, reminiscent of elves, but they form more closely to the head, going back instead of out for easier gliding in the water. Females and males don't look much different from one another, their secondary sexual characteristics much less developed than true humans, but they often try to look more like the humans of their preferred gender to fit in as much as possible in human society.
The Breath of the Ocean
Their connection to Merfolk offers an innate connection to water and the creatures that live there. Water-rich environments offer strength and vitality to danlings, while dry environments sap them of energy. Danlings need to live their lives near a large body of water of some sort (the kind of water, fresh or salt, is determined by their Mer parent's home environment). Their skin requires the moistness that comes in the air by the water, or it will get dry and cracked, and even if that weren't the case there is a distinct longing for the water that follows them their whole life. The lapping of waves against the shore is the most beautiful music to a danling. They are quite balanced and nimble both on land and in the water. Many find work in the fishing industry and other such careers that involve life by the docks or on boats.
