Homebrew Descendant Species Details

Worshiped. Hunted. Beloved. Feared.  Blessed. Forsaken. History. Myths.

These are words you would hear when The Descendants are discussed, usually in a hushed voice in a dark tavern, or otherwise away from prying ears and eyes. Left behind when one of their ancient parents ascended to godhood, the divine magic they wield was expelled in that moment, finding its way to all those within the bloodline still living. Given incredible powers but little initial knowledge of how or why they received them, many Descendants wandered the worlds, increasing their powers, becoming worshiped as gods themselves or otherwise taken advantage of and killed in hopes of another gaining their powers.

Divine Bloodline

Descendants are the living direct blood relatives of an extremely powerful being that managed to ascend to godhood. Their features depend on their parent race, and for the most part, they appear normal to most. However, a deeper look into their eyes would reveal a radiant like light not seen in normal people, and those more inclined to a divine or demonic nature, would see a radiant glow of various colors and golden wings protruding from the back of the Descendant.  Hair, if the race has any, also takes on a gold-like glow as well, which can be noticed by those more perceptive.

Solitary yet Lonely

Descendants are most commonly hermits, hiding from those who seek to exploit them and their power, while also shielding themselves from the heartbreak of watching friends and loved ones die of old age. A few however exist in the general populace as religious leaders or wandering adventurers, all the while hiding their secrets, doing what they can to help those who need it. At least one is rumored to be the king of a far away land.  All feel the urge to spread the word of the gods that birthed them by nature, but many have founds way to push those feelings aside, whether through drink, drugs, or other addicting distractions of the world.

Lacking a homeland, Descendants have made their own way in the world, yearning for understanding and companionship, knowing that either could be their end. Gaining the trust of a Descendant can be a great boon to your life, but will eventually lead to great tragedy as there will always be those who seek their power by any means.

Names

Descendant names are reflective of the culture they were born in, albeit the names are very old and not much in fashion in the present day. Most Descendants use fake names that are more common of their culture today, have renamed themselves, or otherwise have been so removed from any contact that they no longer remember their own names.
