Homebrew Banished Grim Reaper Species Details

Grim reapers are servants of death. Created and bound to collect souls of those fated to die for all eternity.

For whatever reason, you have been banished by your creator, doomed to wander the mortal realm. You still remember your old life, but you have lost touch with the powers you once had. All that remains are distant memories and a faint cold aura that shrouds you constantly.

Banished Grim Reaper Traits

All grim reapers have humanoid forms. Their exact forms aren't able to be distinguished by normal human eyes, and can't be attributed to a specific race anyway.

Code of Conduct

*originally from the grim reaper race created by Moonfish_the_Crescent_Hunter. All credit for this racial trait goes to them. The only edits I have made is to adjust for a banished reaper*

Most grim reapers are wanderers, adventurers, or self-proclaimed clergymen. In reality, no matter what they pursue, grim reapers are generally seen as outcasts.

Whether or not true, common beliefs claim that they are unholy offspring, arcane abominations, or murderous vagabonds. Only the most insightful clergymen or sages know the truth of what they really are.

No matter the case, few grim reapers stray from the tenets etched onto their bodies by their creator.

While you have been exiled, the code remains as a constant reminder of your previous life as a servant of death:

Firstly, do no harm to those not yet meant to die.

Secondly, eliminate those who have breached this contract.

Thirdly, let souls find their way to the afterlife unless such contradicts with the previously stated.

Fourthly, cultivate those who cannot find their way to the afterlife unless such contradicts with the previously stated.

Finally, protect thine self unless such contradicts with the previously stated.

Ability score increase

+2 and +1 to any ability of your choice

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Abyssal and one extra language of your choice.

Undead Nature

A grim reaper doesn't require air, food, or drink and cannot be diseased.

Instead of sleeping you enter a sleep-like state for 6 hours. While in this state, you are fully conscious. You can speak, see, feel, think etc. freely. You just have to be sitting still for six hours.

Healing Sucks

Due to the fact that you are undead, you are resistant to healing magic and can only be healed half of the amount you would normally get from any given healing spell.

Jesus is Sparkly

Despite the fact that you have been exiled, holy light still makes you feel weak. You are vulnerable to radiant damage.

Distant Memory

Even though you have been exiled, a small fragment of your power still remains, however it in weak in comparison to what it once was.

Reap: Your past as a servant of death haunts you, once per day, as a bonus action you may approach a dead human, creature, monster etc. and absorb its lingering life essence. Heal 1d10.

Not Your Time: You have an innate ability to sense if someone is meant to die. While this power is weaker than what it once was before your exile, you can still almost make out the mark of death on those around you.
