Homebrew Troll Half-Elf Species Details

Koz'ak stood awkwardly before the head mistress of the orphanage, in the tattered remnants of poorly fitting clothes he'd pilfered from small settlements on the outskirts of the wilds; the only home he'd ever known. To his best estimate, he'd survived over two decades of relentless attempts on his life; frequently beaten into unconsciousness, only to awaken hours or days later in a shallow grave. He'd never known his father, and had lost his mother at such a young age that he could now scarcely remember her face. His sharp Elven features might have been beautiful, were it not for the pale green skin, fiery red hair, and subtle tusks that accompanied them. He flexed his tall frame nervously. He'd heard that this orphanage was a welcoming refuge to even the most misfit children that sought sanctuary within it's walls. Indeed, he'd caught glimpses of Tiefling children; surely if they were welcome here, he too may find place among them.

While all Half-Elves typically walk between two worlds, never truly belonging to either, Troll half-elves belong nowhere. Their very existence is considered an abomination, and as such, they rarely survive past infancy. They combine the racial qualities of their elf and troll sires: their refined senses, love of nature, and artistic Elven tastes contrast starkly with the easy temper, aggression, and violent appetites of their troll bloodline. Their difficult lives push them to choose lives of solitary wandering or join with other misfits and outcasts in the adventuring life.

The Discarded and Hunted

Troll Half-Elves are an offense to all Elves, who view their combination of Elven and Trollish features with disgust and disdain. Other races, especially humans, may be more accepting of their exotic features, but they're just as likely to perceive their trollish characteristics with suspicion and hostility. They're tall by nature, often reaching well above seven feet at full height, and weighing between 200 to 380 pounds, with males only slightly taller and heavier than females.

Wanderers, Criminals and Mercenaries

Troll Half-elves truly belong nowhere, though they are most likely to be welcomed in human cities. They learn early to avoid Elves, who have been know to kill them on sight. Their hard lives often push them into solitude, criminality, or mercenary work; where their unique blend of Elven grace and Trollish regenerative abilities provide selective advantages.Troll Half-Elves are truly rare; one might live a lifetime without ever meeting another. Many Troll Half-Elves prefer to avoid company altogether, wandering the wilds as trappers, foresters, hunters, or adventurers and visiting civilization only rarely. Like elves, they are driven by the wanderlust that comes of their longevity.

Half-Elf Names

Troll Half-Elves have no culture to speak of, and as such often adopt names that they hear in their travels.

Troll Half-Elf Traits

Your troll half-elf character has some qualities in common with elves and some that are common to trolls.

Ability Score Increase

Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Dexterity and Charisma scores increase by 1.

Trollish Regeneration

Your Trollish heritage causes your wounds and injuries to heal quickly. You regain 5 hit points at the beginning of each round. Hit points lost to fire and acid damage cannot be regenerated in this way, and must heal naturally. This regenerative capacity gives you the ability to reattach, or even regrow severed body parts.

Age

Troll Half-elves, the ill-begotten offspring of a troll and an elf, are widely viewed as abominations and so rarely survive infancy. When they do, they mature at the same rate as Elves. Upon reaching adulthood, it is said that the regenerative healing they inheret from their troll bloodline renders them immortal; a point hotly debated by the rare scholars who've encountered them, as their violent lives often lead to violent ends.

Alignment

Half-elves share the chaotic bent of their elven heritage. They value both personal freedom and creative expression, demonstrating neither love of leaders nor desire for followers. They chafe at rules, resent others’ demands, and sometimes prove unreliable, or at least unpredictable.

Size

Troll Half-Elves stand taller than both Elves and Humans, ranging from 6 to 8 feet tall. Your size is Medium.

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
