Homebrew Cat Person Race V2 Species Details

The results of genetic experiments? A horrible mutation gone wrong? (Or right depends on who you ask). A frisky night between a Tabaxi and a human? Who knows? All that matters is they exist whether you like it or not! They’re versatile, they’re sneaky, they might just be moody too! Though they all tend to act like normal humans, sometimes their cat-like instincts still will kick in. Many people do not seem to like them, many call them abominations, or freaks. Though others seem to love them if only for their weird fantasies. Point is, they are usually either seen as mistakes or exploited. There are some areas though, where they are respected.

Cat Person Race V2 Traits

It’s hard to make generalizations about humans, but your human character has these traits.

Ability Score Increase

  • Dex +2
  • +1 to one other ability score of your choice.

Age

Humans reach adulthood in their late teens and live less than a century.

Size

Humans vary widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages

You can speak common and one other language of your choice. Additionally, you can understand cats, lions, tigers, or any other feline animal.

Cat Claws

  • As a bonus action, you can temporarily transform your hands into paws with sharp, retractable claws. Your unarmed strikes will deal damage equal to 1d4+ Stength modifier slashing damage. You can make two attacks with the claws per turn (Standard dual wielding rules) if you desire. You will also have a base climbing speed of 20 feet. You lose your opposable thumbs however, meaning you will have disadvantage on attacks made with weapons made for people with, you know, opposable thumbs. Picking up items will also be made a bit more difficult. You can still perform the somatic components of spells in this state. You can change your hands back with a bonus action.

Cat's Instincts

  • You gain proficiency in Perception and one other skill of your choice.
