Homebrew Dragon-Blooded Species Details

Dragon-blood, sometimes called dragonborn, are a mixed race of lizard-like people born from the original Great Wyrms to act as their army and as servants. Their high reproduction rate and natural power made them a powerful force that would have no doubt won the old war had their masters not fallen. Now with little to no guidance from their old creators and masters, the Dragon-blood prowl the wilds of the world in tribes or bands of various sizes and strengths. Dragon-blood have a fundamentally different set of priorities from other races, one that places survival and strength above all other things. Furthermore, Dragon-blood do not experience emotion like other mortals, instead, they experience emotions in dull, stoic, tones. Where others might feel fear, Dragon-blood understands that something else is fearsome. When others would feel joy, Dragon-blooded understand that something is pleasurable. Activities that others might participate in simply for fun are serious and competitive games and laws written in ink or enforced simply by concept and ideals are entirely alien to them.

For the most part, Dragon-blooded rarely form groups much larger than a dozen or so members except for the purpose of mating. Often times bands will grow too large to share food, and old members will either be killed or chased off. Because of this many Dragon-blooded are often seen as little more than savage beasts - to which many may, in fact, be so. Some, however, have learned the value of numbers and organization. Mostly for the purpose of increasing the chance of survival and growth in strength.

Dragon-Blooded Traits

Your draconic heritage manifests in a variety of traits you share with other dragonborn.

Scales

You have tough, scaly skin. When you aren't wearing armor, your AC is 12 + Dex + Proficiency. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor. You are considered to be trained in unarmored defense.

Maw and Claw

Your fanged maw and sharp claws and heavy tail are natural weapons that deal d6 piercing, slashing, or bludgeoning damage appropriate to your form of strike. As a bonus action, you can make an unarmed strike with a free appendage.

Dragon Heart

You are immune to being Charmed and FrightenedSpells and abilities used to detect or manipulate your emotions or thoughts have a disadvantage, or you have an advantage on saves against such abilities.

Dragons Breath

You have a set of glands located in your mouth that mix a set of chemicals together to produce a breath weapon. Choose an elemental damage type of either Fire, Cold, Lightning, Acid, or Poison. You create a 15ft cone of your chosen type that forces targets to make a reflex save DC 8+ your proficiency modifier + Constitution modifier. Targets take 2D6 damage of your chosen type, or half if they succeeded their save. The damage for this ability increases by D6 each time your proficiency modifier increases. You can use this ability a number of times equal to one plus your constitution modifier. You regain one use of this feature at the end of a short rest or all of your uses back at the end of a long rest.

Draconic

You can speak and write Draconic. You count as a Dragon. You have Darkvision.
