Homebrew Bone Devil Tiefling Species Details

A rare variant of tiefling descended from bone devils. They have a much more monstrous visage than the usual tiefling as much of their body is covered in short boney spikes. At a glance their skeletal design makes them appear more monster than humanoid. This heightens meetings with strangers up to a much more dangerous affair as people are likely to feel certain you mean them harm. This is further amplified by their much larger and more sinister tails that are topped with a stinging barb that can inject debilitating poison or merely be swung like a morning star. It is difficult to find proper clothing as it must be customized to accommodate the rows of spikes along their body (especially the back) and even harder to procure it. However, they are creatures made hardy like the bone devil themselves and hardly feel cold, heat, and being a poisonous creature themself it is difficult to get sick from spoiled food or wild mushrooms. It is easier to live naked in the woods however if such a tiefling resorts to this they may end up becoming as feral and monstrous as the average person would guess them to be by appearance.

Bone Devil Tiefling Traits

Bone Devil's Body

Deadly Tail

Your tail is quite large, long, and covered in sharp spikes. When you make a melee attack the tail may be counted for two-weapon fighting so it may be used to attack with a bonus action, otherwise, it uses an action. If used as a bonus action you will always use the poison barb on the end to strike dealing 1d4+ dex mod piercing and the target must make a con save equal to 8 + your con mod + proficiency. If they succeed they take half the poison damage if not then they take 1d4 poison damage and are poisoned until the end of your next turn. This damage increases to 1d6 at level 5, 1d8 at level 11, and 1d10 at level 16 for the piercing and poison, and for each improvement, you may use the poison feature one additional time before requiring a short rest to recharge your poison. You may also use your tail in a more forceful swipe attack that utilizes your full body's momentum and the array of spikes it possesses. When doing this you may shove, knock prone, or simply strike a target. The damage is 1d4 (+1 Spiked Body) piercing and 1d6 bludgeoning + str mod. You may also grapple a target with your tail and this deals 1d4 +1 (Spiked Body) if successful. The bludgeoning damage of the strike increases by 1d6 at levels 5,11 and 16.

Monstrous Visage

You are terrifying to behold and most will be openly hostile towards you when you first meet. If this is the case you will have disadvantage on any charisma-based checks and even if successful it takes a great amount of time to gain anyone's trust. Should you feel the need to be intimidating you will have advantage on said checks however, this can easily lead to open hostility as you are often treading on thin ice in social situations as is.
