Homebrew Bending Unit Species Details

A common robot typically used to bend girders. Can have a diverse set of personalities and no set moral compass. Requires alcohol to stay powered on but otherwise does not require batteries or etc. Originally built in a far off dimension by Mom's Friendly Robot Company, an incident with Dark Matter and a game caused bending units to appear in the world of Dungeons and Dragons. While foreign to a land with such little technology, eventually the bending units found ways to live among society and were eventually accepted by the public, even though most people were horrified by their presence initially. Today, bending units work as farmers, ship's hands, merchants and in construction. Due to the benefit they're capable of providing to society, bending units are offered free alcohol at local taverns. Some cities throughout the world, however, still reject the presence of bending units, and in rare cases refuse to even allow them within the walls.

Bending units are extremely strong and resilient, and as a result gain a +1 to STR and a +2 to CON. They are also highly resistant to heat and fire up to a certain temperature. Lava is still just as deadly to bending units as it is to humans. Electricity is hazardous to bending units, however, and in high amounts could deactivate them. If struck with a large amount of electricity, you must make a CON save to determine if you're deactivated. When deactivated, others can attempt to reactivate you using multiple checks, but will suffer a large penalty due to not having any knowledge on your physiology.

Robots do not age. Can be killed, but cannot die of old age.

Robots do not have any proclivity towards a specific alignment, but many bending units tend to be Chaotic.

You gain the Darkvision trait, and can see up to 30 ft in the dark.

Can speak, read, and write any language that you have encountered before given enough time to learn it. When hearing a new language, an Intelligence check determines if you learn it. The longer you hear it, the higher the bonus you gain on this check.

Being that you're not from this world, you have Disadvantage on History checks. You do, however, have a perfect memory and are unable to forget anything without choosing to do so.

Bending Unit Traits

As a bending unit, you receive the following traits:

Immense Robotic Strength

Since bending units were initially created to bend metal girders, they are extremely strong. Bending units gain a +1 on all strength checks and automatically succeed on any strength check that entails bending.

Extendo-arms and Legs.

Bending units were initially built with arms and legs that could extend a great distance. As a result, any bending unit can stretch their arms the length of their movement as an Action. In combat, this causes a -1 to hit and damage, but outside of combat is extremely useful for closing gaps, grabbing objects, and so on. If being used to cross a chasm or climb a cliff, you gain a +1 to any check used to do so.

Compartment of Mystery

Bending units are built with a medium sized compartment in the middle of their torso. This can be used as a second backpack for storing items and food. Additionally, as a bending unit, you do not feel encumbrance and can carry any amount of objects and weapons provided enough space. Lastly, when creating a bending unit, you get one random item in your compartment.

Robotic Mind

As a robot, you have a few extra abilities because of your mind. Firstly, you are unable to forget things without choosing to. You have the choice to delete specific memories, but without doing so, you do not forget anything. Second, you can attempt to learn any language when exposed to it with relative ease. The longer the exposure, the better your chances of learning it, though the INT check is difficult (Def. 15 to pass). You gain a +1 to the check for every hour of listening to the language. This caps at +10. Lastly, any mathematics required of you can be done instantaneously.
