Homebrew Crocodilian for Australia homebrew (feedback wanted!) Species Details
Apex Predators
Known to the outside world as Crocodilians, known to themselves as the Dungala, these huge reptiles are the apex predators of deep jungles and wetlands. Their physical body has stayed relatively similar to that of their prehistoric ancestors, only evolving to compete against a human’s tools and intelligence.
Civilization largely avoided their territories out of fear and very little was known about Dungalas until recently. Some smaller races even revered them as gods and offered sacrificial food to the more cunning Dungalas in exchange for peace. Originally, the Dungalas were a solitary people, preferring to live and hunt alone. However, once civilization penetrated the Dungalas' jungles and wetlands they transitioned into becoming effective tour guides, chefs, personal trainers and mercenaries.
Helicopter Mums
Dungalan mothers are perhaps the most overprotective mothers in the world. Rarely a moment goes by when she is not watching over her eggs, and once her babies hatch she protects them by holding them inside of her mouth until they are large enough to fight for themselves. Finally, she teaches them how to fight by sparring against them, and only when they can defeat her does she set them free. Despite this harsh upbringing, the skills Dungalas learn from their mother are cherished and a strong, but little spoken of love is firmly held between mother and child.
