Homebrew Altered Blood Aasimar Species Details

Aasimar that have fallen from their celestial beginnings, have forsaken their pasts to make a pact instead with demons, gods, or other beings that shift them entirely away from the light. Changing the celestial to the necrotic, the healing to the undead, and the light into the shadows, altered blood aasimar are fiercely loyal to those who changed them and find comfort and power in the changes that have been made.

The pact changes them on a deep level, altering their blood and bones from celestial to match whatever being the pact was made with.

Champions of the Night

The features of the aasimar that usually reflect their celestial lineage have shifted entirely for those who have been changed. Angelic wings have shifted into bone wings that are still capable of some flight or bat wings that can carry them. Those touched by demons will also have some looks relating to tieflings with their legs ending in cloven hooves or horns sprouting from their heads. Those touched by dark gods will have tattoos in the old languages sprawl across their skin, runes that tie them to the outer planes where their god resides. Those touched by the undead of any kind will find themselves reflecting their features such as vampiric fangs, a lust for blood or flesh, and an ethereal paleness as their blood begins to thicken into a necrotic sludge.

These features change from aasimar to aasimar, depending on their pact makers and can be as varied as any creature throughout the realms.

Hidden Wanderers

Still keeping their backgrounds hidden, altered blood aasimar tend to travel in baggy clothes and long coats with hoods to hide any features that could give them away. Their eyes glow in the dark so many will wear coverings in crowded areas, those with permanent changes such as horns or constant wings will bind such things in cities to remain unseen.

While not all aasimar follow these traditions, many find it helpful when they do not have the ability to change shape.

Aasimar Guidance

Like all aasimar, altered blood beings have an innate connection to their pact makers and while most only experience such a bond through dreams and prophetic visions, some have discovered ways of communing at other times with rituals and dark spells.

Each being has a different way of communicating with their patron and god and as such, each type dream, vision, and ritual will be shifted and personalized to each singular aasimar.

Undying Devotion

Unlike the conflicting emotions of their celestial brothers, altered blood aasimar find comfort in their paths and a freedom in their loyalties. They did not need to choose this pact, they did not need to stray so far from the light, but they were allowed the option to devote themselves and so they shall do so with a single minded ferocity.

Aasimar Names

Most aasimar are born from human parents, and they use the same naming conventions as their native culture. Many will change names away from ones that contain a celestial meaning but it is not required.

Altered Blood Aasimar Traits

Your aasimar character has the following racial traits.

Necrotic Shroud

Starting at 3rd level, you can use your action to unleash the divine energy within yourself, causing your eyes to turn into pools of darkness and two skeletal or bat-like wings to sprout from your back. The instant you transform, other creatures within 10 feet of you that can see you must each succeed on a Charisma saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma modifier) or become frightened of you until the end of your next turn.

Your transformation lasts for 1 minute or until you end it as a bonus action. During it, once on each of your turns, you can deal extra necrotic damage to one target when you deal damage to it with an attack or a spell. The extra necrotic damage equals your level.

Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.

Shadow Step

At 6th level, you gain the ability to step from one shadow into another. When you are in dim light or darkness, as a bonus action, you can magically teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space you can see that is also in dim light or darkness.

At 12th level, you can teleport up to 120 feet.

Your Charisma score increases by 2. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
