Homebrew Werewolf Species Details
Lycanthropy can be spread like a disease. Sometimes a lycanthrope begins life as a normal humanoid or giant who subsequently contracts lycanthropy after being wounded by a lycanthrope. Such a creature is called an afflicted lycanthrope. Other lycanthropes are born as lycanthropes, and are known as natural lycanthropes.
A lycanthrope can either resist its curse or embrace it. By resisting the curse, a lycanthrope retains its normal alignment and personality while in humanoid form. It lives its life as it always has, burying deep the bestial urges raging inside it. However, when the full moon rises, the curse becomes too strong to resist, transforming the individual into its beast form-or into a horrible hybrid form that combines animal and humanoid traits. When the moon wanes, the beast within can be controlled once again. Especially if the cursed creature is unaware of its condition, it might not remember the events of its transformation, though those memories often haunt a lycanthrope as bloody dreams.
Society
Some individuals see little point in fighting the curse and accept what they are. With time and experience, they learn to master their shape-changing ability and can assume beast form or hybrid form at will. Most lycanthropes that embrace their bestial natures succumb to blood-lust, becoming evil, opportunistic creatures that prey on the weak.

Speak with Wolves
Your curse gives you the ability to communicate with other wolves. While in your normal form, you can communicate nonverbally with wolves and direwolves. You are able to ask simple questions and convey basic meanings to the animals. Additionally, you have advantage on Animal Handling checks when interacting with wolves. While in your primal form, you can communicate complex ideas with wolves and dire wolves as though communicating in a common tongue.
Primal Wolf Form
As an action, you unleash the primal wolf your curse brings. This transformation lasts for 1 hour or until you spend one action to revert to your normal form. Once you shift, you cannot do so again until you finish long rest. While in wolf form you cannot wear armour or wield weapons. You can choose to have equipment you are wearing to either merge into your form or be dropped to the ground. You gain no benefit from equipment that is merged into your form.
Controlling the Beast
Your control over the beast within is perilous. With every shift, you run the risk of loosing control and unleashing the beast upon anyone nearby. You maintain control of your beast for a length of time equal to (1 + your Character Level + your Proficiency Bonus) minutes. While you have control of the beast, you can choose to spend one action to end the transformation.
When you take damage from non-silvered magical or nonmagical sources, you must succeed on a DC (5 + (amount of damage / 2)) Wisdom Saving Throw or lose control. If you take damage from a silvered magical or nonmagical weapon, you just succeed on a DC (5 + amount of damage) Wisdom Saving Throw or lose control.
If you lose control of the beast, the DM controls the primal wolf for the duration of the transformation, however every minute you may reroll your saving throw to take back control. Once you make the correct saving throw, you regain control and and end the transformation.
If the primal wolf drops to zero hit points, you must immediately make a DC (5 + your Character Level + your Proficiency Bonus). On a success, you revert to your normal form at 1 hit point. Upon a failure, you revert to your normal form unconscious at 0 hit points and immediately being making death saving throws.

At level 5, when you take the attack action, you can make two claw attacks.
Your claw attack damage increases to 2d8 at level 5, 2d10 at level 10, and 2d12 at level 15. Your bite attack damage increases to 2d6 at level 5, 3d6 at level 10, and 4d6 at level 15.

Regardless of outcome, you may then attempt a bite attack as a bonus action.
