Homebrew Angel of Azaer Species Details

The Angels of Azaer come from a plane named Sa'ath, a place defined by bravery and glory in death. Azear is a God-Pharaoh with the head of an African Wolf, and is part of the Greater Pantheon of gods that rule over that plane. Azear stands as the symbol for Brotherhood and Will, and most of the angels that serve him are an embodiment of these values. In the plane of Sa'ath, death has greater meaning than life, and serving your god for eternity in the Afterlife is the only ambition shared by most of the living. Because most of these gods take amusement in warfare, this has created a world torn by tribes, caught in an eternal both in life and death, seeking eternal glory. The reason for the chaos of this plain lies with its creators. The nine Elder Gods, which Azear is part of, are powerful entities born in another plane, where they were only minor gods and troublesome at that. After being cast out for going against the gods from their native plane of existence, they found refuge in one of their own making, Sa'ath. As they created the world, most of the gods saw this as an opportunity to breed strong warriors to one day exact revenge on their native plane, the leader of these Six God-Pharaoh's of Destruction would be named Mehemnon. Azear, Hetma and Anemhotep would had seen reason in their banishment, and were willing to face their punishment saw this as an opportunity for redemption, becoming the keepers of this plane, holding of their six siblings, and keeping them trapped in this plane in an eternal combat. In the plane of Sa'ath, angels are humans that have proven their worth both in life and in death, and have ascended through the grace of their god, becoming champions and tokens of their will. The Angels of Azear are the ascended mortals blessed with resilience and strong empathy for their fellow man, always standing up for those around them, until their last breath. They represent the incorruptible, the strong willed, the unfailing wall that will always stand in the way of the forces of the God-Pharaohs of Destruction.

Transformation of the Ascended

Once a mortal has ascended into an Angel of Azear, their appearance transform to accentuate the traits that represent their god; The Angels of Azear are often taller than average humans, measuring between 6' and 6'5". Their muscle mass is greater making them stronger and more imposing. Their eyes become bright orange like the flame of undying will burning inside of them. Because of the plane they are originated from, most of the Angels of Azear tend to have dark skin and very short hair.

The angels will have their body covered in a light halo of white gold, shining even through illusions and morphing magic, a beacon of their celestial nature. This blessing also alters their human traits to make them more symmetrical, it will erase any scar or defect their human body may have had, meaning their are usually quite beautiful creatures. The final gift of their ascension in a pair of white wings that they can grow out at will, with an average wingspan of 18 feet.

A Search for Purpose

After a great cataclysm, resulting from a titanic battle between the Nine Gods and their forces, the forces that held the plane of Sa'ath broke down as the gods destroyed themselves, expelling many of its celestial inhabitants to neighboring planes. Because of this, most of the Angels of Azear have been cut off from their god, and purpose, doomed to roam strange worlds with different gods, morals and customs. Some angels fell on the same worlds, some are stranded all by their lonesome.

The most strong willed of these fallen angels end up serving the stronger entities of their new worlds that are most aligned with the ideals of their God-Pharaohs, or become gods themselves. However, the Angels of Azear are the embodiment of Will, and even in these new worlds they act as champions of Brotherhood and Will, even if it means facing the wrath of much more powerful entities. Their God might no longer watch over them, but they will uphold his Will wherever they find themselves, and influence the world with respect for their original purpose.

Planescape Refugees

In their world, the Angels of Azear represent an immovable wall in the face of evil, but as refugees the foundations and knowledge of their world has lost all of its importance. In these new worlds they are like children, needing to learn the languages, customs and history of these new realms. For a creature as strong willed, for one that knows it place in the world, this can be a very difficult task as the laws and rules of these new worlds will not fit their ideals, and their Lawful nature will compel them to fix the world around them instead of adapting to it.

Because of the poor racial diversity of their original plane, they will be intrigued and curious to learn from the new races they encounter, however they will feel more comfortable aligning themselves with humans at first.

Because of their Celestial blessing, they will immediately sense other angels to have fallen in a similar plane as them, but they will also sense the presence of the Celestials that indigenous to their new-found plane. Their goals will be initially to regroup, then present themselves to the celestial forces that most align with their ideals in order to find support and uphold the Will of their God.

The Angels of Azear may be children in these new worlds, however they have been blessed by a God, meaning they will quickly learn about lore, languages, etc. taking in all the information of these new worlds like a sponge.

Because of their different historic origins, the Angels of Azear will not be well informed of the subtleties and context of the current world. They will not be aware of threats or dangers of these new worlds, and might not even be equipped to deal with magic wielded by some entities.

Angels of War

Although the Angels of Azear were not the most war-bent of the angels of Sa'ath, many preferring to heal and protect the living by acting like living shields, they do come from a plane torn by constant war, where fighting for glory was the purpose for most living creatures. Because of this, the Angels of Azear will seek to involve themselves in issues that involve violence more diplomacy.

Because of their violent home-world, most Angels of Azear will be seen as Angels of War in the new worlds, people calling onto them in battles to serve as protectors and indomitable fighters to turn the tide of combat.

Being the embodiment of Will, the Angels of Azear are also the champions of elements that represent this undying resilience. In war, they will wield fire and burning light to smite their foes and cause devastation.

Incorruptible, Immortal, Indomitable

No matter where they go, the Angels of Azear will always be the last warriors standing on the battlefield. No spell or word can corrupt or blind them, they will never give up, no matter the odds. They will see any task through, even if it means their death. Life may be what they are sworn to uphold, but they understand that death is a normal part of the cycle, having proving themselves both as champions of the living and the dead in order to become Angels. They know that war and battle comes with its fair share of innocent victims, and the protection of the many may come at the cost of the few.
