Homebrew Absorbian - Beta Species Details

Absorbians are a race of Intelligent Oozes that have evolved in a most unusual way. They begin thier life cycle as a bloblette, but soon have devoured thier first prey item, and develop a base form. This base form will grant the young Absorbian one or more movement speeds, and will determine the creature's first permanent form. Absorbians grow from this stage by devouring enemies they have slain in battle. Once an Absorbian has finished consuming the remains, they gain a small momento or characteristic of that creature. Sometimes it can be a physical characteristic, or a mental one; perhaps even a memory. If an Absorbian devours a particularly powerful enemy, then they may experience a more profound transformation.

As an Absorbian matures, it can change in size and will typically experience a growth spurt, sometimes several times in it's life. Once an Absorbian starts to reach old age, it will start to lose mass. This process is called "The Sleeping" and results in a loss of at least one size category, and for each size category lost a new Bloblette is created, and a new Absorbian is born.

Absorbians have no maternal instincts, and will always abandon a new Bloblette to fend for itself and find it's own way. As such, Absorbians do not have a culture or a family model, but instead creates a family connection with creatures who show it kindness and goodwill when it is young.

Absorbians learn the languages of some of the creatures that they consume, and will always learn any one language the base form had.

Absorbian - Beta Traits

"Absorbians have no racial identity of their own, rather they create an identity based on the enemies they defeat in battle and the companions they travel with."

Base form

While an Absorbian will always be an ooze, as a Bloblette, Absorbians are mindless hunger machines, they develop sentience once they have killed and consumed their first small or medium creature. Their form adapts to whatever the creature they consumed was, and their protoplasm perfectly mimics the base form. They gain a base speed based on the forms original movement speed, though later evolutions may provide further movement speeds or types. An Absorbian PC starts play with a base form. The PC is allowed to be as creative in the way there PC looks as they wish, (within DM allowance) but must choose a Base form to start play with, and only gains the listed abilities.
