Homebrew Beastfolk Species Details

In most worlds, beastfolk are among the most diverse of the common races, late to arrive on the world scene, appearing a while after humans and short or long lived depending entirely off of what species they take after. Typically beastfolk are ambitious as they tend to hold a strong work ethic and will likely not stop until the job is done. Whether it is their strong value of family that beastfolk have that pushes them beyond their boundaries and to work as hard as they can, they certainly are not quitters. Whatever it may be that pushes them forward, their value for effort and perseverance allows them to stand out in any crowd.

Diverse in all senses

With their dependency on the environment around them, beastfolk are wide spread in both culture, and physical appearance. There is no typical appearance when it come to beastfolk. Much like humans they take varying appearances often associated with the regions of the world they live within. A beastfolk person could take after anything from a mouse all the way to a bear. It is not uncommon for beastfolk to interbreed with races such as humans or elves so it is also not uncommon to see half-beastfolk people who may only have some of their animal-like features.

Variety in Climate

Beastfolk are one of the most adjustable races of all that there are. Beastfolk, much like most other creatures, after a sure amount of time can adapt to a new setting. Depending on how drastically different the climate of previous residence is, it may take more time to for a beastfolk to adapt. Say a beastfolk person is from a tundra climate, if they move to a tropical climate it will take considerably longer to adapt in comparison to a tundra climate living beastfolk person who moves to a temperate climate.

MAN'S EVERYONE'S BEST FRIEND

Just like humans, beastfolk often do not care what race the person or people they interact with are, and will happily greet anyone who looks kind. Beastfolk are typically kind even if they may have a vicious appearance.

Humans. “They’re honest and kind companions. Their down fall is how awfully nosey they tend to be.”

Elves. “It’s best not to wander into elven woods. They don’t like intruders, and you’ll as likely be bewitched as peppered with arrows. Still, if an elf can get past that damned racial pride and actually treat you like an equal, you can learn a lot from them.”

Halflings. “It’s hard to beat a meal in a halfling home, as long as you don’t crack your head on the ceiling—good food and good stories in front of a nice, warm fire. If halflings had a shred of ambition, they might really amount to something.”

Ambitious Homage

Much like humans, beastfolk who seek adventure are the most daring and ambitious members of an already effort and exploration based race. While they closely follow after humans when it comes to ambitions, it is likely that you will not see a beastfolk in many leadership positions. Ordinarily beastfolk prefer to make a difference without the attention that humans typically strive for.

Beastfolk Names and Ethnicities

Having so much more variety than other cultures, beastfolk as a whole have no typical names. Much like humans, many beastfolk names take after ancestors and such, however this does not mean that beastfolk do not have the occasional original name.

The material culture and physical characteristics of beastfolk can change wildly from region to region. In most situations, beastfolk will be found in areas that suit their physical needs. In warmer, savanna like climates you may find beastfolk that take after the natural animals of that climate.
