Homebrew True Yuan-Ti Species Details

The true Yuan-Ti of Jahal Cove are a reclusive tribe that worship the Lava Snake or "Colective One" as a god. They make offering to him, believing his power maintains the islands afloat. They abandonned the North island when people founded Jahal Cove and retreated to the much more inhospitable South Island.

They are not evil creature per se. They are civilized in a tribal way but tend to be untrusting and even xenophobic due to past persecutions. Their willing isolation make their members easily impressionable.

Yuan-ti Names

Yuan-ti names have meanings that have been passed down through the generations, although spellings and inflections have changed over time.

Some yuan-ti add more sibilants to their birth names to create an exaggerated hissing sound, based on one’s personal preference and whether an individual’s anatomy can more easily pronounce the name in this altered form. An adopted name of this sort is recognized as a variant of the birth name, rather than a unique name unto itself. A yuan-ti might refer to itself by its birth name, by its adopted name, or (especially among purebloods) by a name it borrows from the local populace.

The Yuan-ti Names table provides yuan-ti birth names suitable for any campaign.

True Yuan-Ti Traits

Your True Yuan-ti character has the following racial traits.

Gold sickness

When a true Yuan-Ti is in presence of gold and / or treasures such as precious jewels, it must make a WIS saving throw.

On a success, the Yuan-Ti keeps his or her lust for gold in check. On a failure, the Yuan-Ti is uncontrolably attracted to the gold or treasure and will try to take possession of it by any mean necessary, disregarding social cues and better judgement. If someone already owns said treasure, the Yuan-Ti will try to persuade the owner to give it to him but if he refuses he will use his natural magic to charm him. In extreme cases, the Yuan-Ti will use brute force to claim the treasure.

The DC of the save will be higher depending on the amount of treasure and / or rarity of it
