Homebrew Chamelemen Species Details
We got two eyes doing the work of six.
Born in an evolving world, chamelemen are preemptively ready to fight what they can and evade what they cannot. Joyful and mischievous, the chamelemen are unlike their lizardfolk kin in many ways. Something about living life in the trees, peacefully alongside other races, has a way of softening their cold blooded hearts.
Hidden Guardians
With bulging eyes capable of seeing in all directions, tails adept at gripping branches, and skin cooperating with the colors around them, chamelemen make great ambushers and lookouts.
In the Great Tree Meeting, chamelemen and forest gnomes work together to craft a safe home in the heart of the Endless Woods, with chamelemen taking the role of sentinel and hunter.
Apprenticeship
Their reptilian nature gives chamelemen the instinct to grow to their strengths. Chamelemen are most at home when they know their role and know they can excel at it, and they order their society to optimize natural skillsets.
A young promising cook is paired with a master chef, a youngster with an accurate tongue-shot is paired with a veteran sharpshooter. These bonds are stronger than those of parent-child, though it is not too rare that a parent happens to match up well with a child's skillset.
Though they will generally prefer a chamelemen apprentice with a chamelemen master, they recognize the utility of outsiders sharing their craft or learning from the chamelemen.

Chamelemen Quirks
| d8 | Quirk |
|---|---|
| 1 | You let your wandering eyes guide you to whatever they pick up, no matter how small. |
| 2 | You sleep best in the trees. |
| 3 | Nothing beats a good bug burrito; so much so that you do not recognize other races might not find this so palatable. |
| 4 | Your long tongue and color-changing nature lets you enjoy your first true love: pranks. |
| 5 | You have a deep love for the gnomes, and generally enjoy any smaller humanoid as a result. |
| 6 | Growing up far removed from other races besides the gnomes, you find yourself fascinated with the idea of goblins and goblin culture. |
| 7 | Your mentor taught you a secret method specific to your craft. It is largely unnoticeable by those who have not dedicated their life to the craft, but you guard it closely. |
| 8 | You are easily spooked and quickly lash your tongue out when startled, leading to social faux pas. |
