Homebrew Awakened Undead Species Details

 

A Non-Typical Type 

There is no typical Awakened Undead. An individual can stand from 5 feet to a little over 6 feet tall and weigh from 18 to 40 pounds. This is due to the lack of any organs, skin and any other normal human features, besides bones. The structure of bones depends on what race the Awakened Undead is. The memory of the Undead is whipped when reborn and they get glimpses of their past. 

Unsettling Distance

Not knowing your place in the world can form distance and coldness in some. Awakened Undead usually have no sense of self and can't quite figure out where they fit. Most races and are scared of such a humanoid. Fear causes most to keep their distance from Awakened Undead. They are usually lost and wondering people who seek who brought them back or their past. They still have the same racial emotional range and feel a terrible loss of identity. Some embrace it and become anew. Few are ever reborn and it is not an easy process either. 

Ethics of Question

An Awakened Undead naturally is familiar with death and isn't worried about it. Taking up jobs close to death or evil, they don't seem to mind such things. Not questioning death and sometimes even searching for it. They jump in head first into most situations and usually have questionable beliefs of the world. Continuously they find themselves in the depths of crime and evil but are usually out for themselves. Having little to live for they don't do much besides for themselves. Usually with a cold or cruel humor, not many would ally themselves with such Undead.  

With no culture or past that they know of, Awakened Undead trudge through life with little purpose and sometimes find their own place in the world.  

 

Awakened Undead Traits

Cold to the bone with only bone left, Awakened Undead are not the prettiest sight.

Ability Score Increase

 Your ability score improvement depends on which race you have chosen as your skeleton. 

Age

After being reborn and undead as long as the one who created you is still alive then you will continue to exist. Eventually once the necromancer dies then the Awakened undead has another  80 years before their body falls apart and their consciousness leaves them. If a god has chosen to bring back your character then the god decides how long your Awakened Undead lives. 

Alignment

Awakened Undead aline more with themselves than other and tend to lean to a more chaotic alignment. 

Size

The size of your Awakened Undead depends on the race of the skeleton.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice. It does depend on your race beforehand as well. Take into account that the race of your skeleton may have an impact on what languages you might know. 

Darkvision

With the magic in their bones and soul, seeing in the dark is made easy. You can see in dim light within 60 feat as if you were in bright light. In darkness you can see shapes but can not distinguish colour. 

Natural Necromancy

You know the cantrips, chill touch and toll the dead. Use your wisdom as your spellcasting ability. 

Damage Resistance

You have resistance to the damage type poison.

Asphyxiation

You do not need air to breath and can not drown either.
