Homebrew Voyant Species Details
Voyant
- Voyant are born en-masse via clusters of large, neon-colored, translucent eggs which are perfectly spherical in shape. The source of these eggs is a closely guarded secret kept by the governing society of the Voyant's homeworld, Claiyorv. Immediately after emerging from their eggs, voyant children are given a large bubble helmet which they will go on to wear for the rest of their life. Ever swirling within these helmets is an opaque, viscous, arcane vapor that dramatically shifts in a wide range of hues depending on the wearer's emotions. Connected to the front of the bubble helmets are filtered breathing masks, which are necessary due to the fact that Voyant cannot breathe the air of most atmospheres, including that of their home world. An additional side effect of their heads being ever-obscured is that the vast majority of people do not know the appearance of Voyant faces, with the exception of the Voyant themselves.
- Voyant are a tall and spindly race, standing on average at around 7-8 ft tall. Their skin is typically whitish, paper thin, and always with a pearlescent sheen. Their form is generally incredibly slender, for example their wrists typically being only about 1.5-2 inches wide. While tall and thin, they move incredibly slowly, and often talk slightly slowly as well. Many believe that they perceive time differently than most. Voyant also age far more rapidly than other species. They reach adulthood at around 5 years old, and typically die when they’re in their 50’s or 60’s.
- Despite their face being entirely obscured within their bubble-helmets, Voyant do in-fact have eyes; six of them. But these eyes are far different than the flesh and blood eyes of most humanoids. They are flawless pearl-like spheres that see utilizing Mana-sight: a way to perceive the world around them that is entirely unique to Voyant, allowing them to observe the world by observing the mana that encompasses everything. Due to this unique form of vision, Voyant are also capable of seeing through not only normal darkness, but magical darkness as well.
- Voyant speak exclusively through psychic means, rather than using mouths and vocal chords as most humanoids. Because of their psychic abilities, their own language is not able to be spoken or read in a traditional capacity. As such, more palatable names have been given to their words and names that are more comprehensible by other species throughout the galaxy. Instead of using typical books, they use glass orbs which have psychic information contained within them, only readable by Voyant.
- For sustenance Voyant solely depend on the intake of information, which they psychically convert into the multicolored vapor that swirls within their helmets. Many voyant choose to obtain sustenance by watching non-voyant species eat food, consuming the information of the sight of the food and the descriptions of its taste. Should a voyant individual be deprived of all sources of new information for an extended period of time, the mana-vapor within their helmet will become dim and the Voyant will inevitably perish due to intellect starvation.
- Collectively, Voyant are a massively intelligent and conniving species, and are raised from a young age to become great leaders and scholars. After reaching adulthood and completing their mandatory schooling, the majority of Voyant leave their homeworld to assimilate into the countless civilizations across the galaxy, with the exception of the select few who are recruited to join the governing society of their homeworld.
Claiyorv, the Voyant homeworld
- The entire planet is dedicated to the hatching and subsequent education of Voyant children.
- The sky of Claiyorv is perpetually obscured with a dense blanket of dark storming clouds, the planet exclusively lit by the multicolor lightning that emits from the eternal storm. The Voyants themselves built an intricate city built into the stoney wasteland of the planet, with high dome ceilings and arched doorways. Winding subterranean hallways and enormous orb libraries. Deep underground is where the hatching chambers are located: enormous cavernous spaces carved deep into the stone of the planet. Shallow pools of neon fluid sit at the base of each hatching chamber, which is where the eggs are stored and hatched.
- Claiyorv is the common name for the Voyant homeworld that was created in order to refer to the homeworld to non-voyant.
