Homebrew Arachnid Species Details

Creatures whose bloodline dwells from the ancestry of both spiders and humans, their mutated traits often strike fear or intrigue in passersby. Arachnae have evolved to be swifter than any other arachnoid creature, their cleverness is unmatched by other spider races, highly intelligent, they often maintain social groups and clans. Arachnae heave the upper body of a human, their skin is often rougher and of a different colouration than their bipedal ancestors. Their hair is silky and fine but with incredible tensile strength; some Arachnae, whose ancestry is more spider than human, have spines, markings, and multiple eyes. Their lower half is of an arachnid; they have eight legs that protrude from their abdomen and have a functional spinneret. The species and size of an Arachnid depend upon the spider species of the Arachnid's descent. Due to their evolved nature, Arachnae are less aggressive and more social than their monstrous cousins; they have cultures, religions, and communities though they mostly keep to themselves.

Arachnid Traits

Preferring to be in isolation from other races, the Arachnae often live in small communities of other Arachnids. They are a strange blend between human and spider.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Age

Arachnids reach maturity around age 20 and live twice as long as humans.

Speed

You have a base walking and climbing speed of 35 feet. Your burrowing speed is 25 feet.

Darkvision

Thanks to your Arachnid heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern colour in darkness, only shades of grey.

Don't Look Up

Your climbing speed is equal to your walking speed and climbing does not require extra movement. You have the ability to move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down on ceilings. If you take damage during a climb, you must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 11), if you fail, you fall down from the wall or ceiling.

Spider Silk

You are able to produce spider silk half an inch in diameter equal to your character level multiplied by 10 feet per long rest. The silk can be used as improvised rope and maintains a sticky consistency; any creature smaller than Large must make a Strength saving throw DC of 8 plus your Dexterity modifier in order to escape the adherent.

Spider Web

When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Web spell once with this trait and regain the ability after completing a short rest. This spell does not use a spell slot. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Familiarity

You can ignore all restrictions caused by the Web spell.
