Homebrew Dragonborn (LH) Species Details
Dragonborn Race Details
The Dragonborn people are the proud descendants of the mighty dragons. Dragonborn worship their ancestor Bahamut as his heralds and earthly children. The Righteous Dragon King foresaw the end of the Age of Ancients and breathed life into a mortal race that would inherit the dragon's strength, pride, and name in the coming age.
Proud Dragon Kin
Dragonborn look very much like dragons standing erect in humanoid form, though they lack wings. Dragonborn boast scales and horns of many styles and colors-deeply resembling their dragon ancestors. Their small, fine scales vary across a spectrum of brass, bronze, red, blue, purple, white, black, and silver in color. They are tall and strongly built, often standing 6 to 7 feet tall and weighing 250 pounds or more. Their hands and feet are strong, talonlike claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand. Some dragonborn are known to grow fur or frills/fins.
A Unified People
To any dragonborn the clan and kin are most important in life. Their commumities are tightly-knit and promote cooperation, good-will to others, respect, honor, mentorship, and self-improvement. Dragonborn take on the element and features of the dragon breed that resonates with their soul-a couple of flame dragonborn wouldn't be surprised to birth a venom dragonborn hatchling. This aspect leads to little if any discrimination within dragonborn communities. Younglings are raised by the entire clan and taught the core philosophies and norms of their society. Younglings are encouraged to find a mentor and adoptive godparent that possesses a skill, characteristic, knowledge, or profession they hold interest in. Clans see each other as close friends and family and share a mindset of supporting each other and working for the good of the clan. Diffirent clans may share friendly competition but always view each other as extended family. Dragonborn families do not typically teach family trades and indeed parent-child and master-student relationships are fluid to them. With the progression of the clan as priority all dragonborn strive to find their role in society. Failure to fulfill the responsibilities of one's position and profession is seen as a great dishonor to them.
A continual drive for self-improvement reflects the self-sufficiency of the race as a whole. Dragonborn value skill and excellence in all endeavors. They hate to fail, and they push themselves to extreme efforts before they give up on something. A dragonborn holds mastery of a particular skill as a lifetime goal. Members of other races who share the same commitment find it easy to earn the respect of a dragonborn. Though all dragonborn strive to be self-sufficient, they recognize that help is sometimes needed in difficult situations. But the best source for such help is the clan, and when a clan needs help, it turns to another dragonborn clan before seeking aid from other races—or even from the gods.
Dragonborn Names
Dragonborn have personal names given at birth, but they put their clan names first as a mark of honor. A childhood name or nickname is often used among hatchmates as a descriptive term or a term of endearment. The name might recall an event or center on a habit.

Age
Dragonborn mature at the same rate as humans. They reach adulthood after 20 years and have been known to live to 150+.
Alignment
Dragonborn, like dragons, are very intuned with their souls. Dragonborn may not be long-lived but they firmly believe in the eternity of their souls. They tend to follow extremes, making a conscious choice for one side or the other in the cosmic war between good and evil (represented by Bahamut and Tiamat, respectively). Most dragonborn are good, but there are those who yearn for a new age where wyrms rule. These evil dragonborn worship the wicked wyrm goddess, Tiamat.
Size
Dragonborn are taller and heavier than humans, standing well over 6 feet tall and averaging almost 250 pounds. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Dragon Ancestry
You have draconic ancestry. Choose one type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestry table. Your breath weapon, damage resistance, and special trait are determined by the dragon type.
Flame dragonborn breath a 30ft. long by 5ft. wide line of fire, dexterity saving throw. Improved breath feature causes creatures who fail their saves to become frightened for 2d4 rounds.
Ice dragonborn exhale a 15ft. cone of cold, constitution saving throw. Improved breath feature causes creatures who fail their saves to halve their movement and have disadvantage on dexterity saves for 2d4 rounds.

Breath Weapon
You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry: the DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 1d10 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. At 6th level the damage increases to 2d10 and you can control your breath shape. At 11th level the damage increases to 3d10 and you can now use your breath weapon as a bonus action. At 16th level the damage increases to 4d10 and gains improved features. After you use your breath weapon, you must take a short or long rest until you can use it again.
Damage Resistance
You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.
Dragon Trait
You recieve an additional trait associated with your draconic ancestry: for example flame dragonborn are unaffected by intesnse heat environments.
Dragon Souls
You are proficient in the Int Religion skill.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.

Posted Jan 29, 2019Hi Lionheart537 have to say love your take on the dragonborn & out of almost all others your is the best formatted & in depth.
So I had some questions & some feed back.
1. What's your reasoning for the 1D10 damage with the breath weapon? I ask because mechanically compared to other races abilities it is weak (not to say dragonborn are bad they are my favorite). Anyway part of my reasoning is you have this epic dragonborn use his breath attack it look cool but there is a good chance that it dose less damage than fall from a bookshelf, if you don't mind me saying you could change the damage to 2D4+2 so at Max damage it's the same as your d10 but it makes the base damage 4 just a suggestion.
2. It would be epic if you could add a platinum & obsidian dragon ancestry or a light & dark? Not sure how it would fit with the others? I can just imagine a 30 foot radiant beam from a shining dragonborn. anyway thanks for reading have a good day.
