Homebrew Broker Species Details

Brokers are a race of humanoids made out of arcane energies infused into mechanical bodies. Created somewhere within the orderly plane of Mechanus, they have now mostly strayed from their old ways of maintaining order and find themselves in the material plane where they can explore their own selfish desires and develop their own culture.

Arcane Technology

The basic form of a broker is arcane energy in the shape of blue flame that suffuses and powers a mechanical body, about the size of a regular human. They are created with this body but their true form is the arcane energy that hides within, and they can modify their mechanical body as they wish, whether it be to make it more flamboyant and stylish or to install tools of war into their appendages, like blades or shields. They still feel pain like a normal person would, but are more durable and immune to disease.

Knowledge is Power, and Money

Brokers place high value in the accumulation of information and knowledge, and the application of such knowledge has the side effect of allowing them to accumulate much influence and wealth, which they also have gained strong affinity for. The lure of information and other valuables that they can sell to the other races, or other brokers, is often appealing enough for them to venture into untold danger.

Society and Names

Broker society is divided into cartels. Each broker’s name has the name of their cartel attached as a prefix; for example, By’hare is of Cartel By, and Ta’lan is of Cartel Ta. Most brokers live and die by their cartel, it’s values and members more important than anything else, and the continued expanding of its influence upon the world.

Beings made out of pure energy and mechanical bodies, brokers have potential and the means to become incredibly powerful.

Ability Score Increase

Your Constitution score increases by 2 and Charisma score by 1.

Age

Brokers are created fully formed, and although they never seem to age, the energy and light that sustains them seems to fade over time. Their lifespans far exceeds humans, the oldest being around 1000 years old.

Size

Brokers stand between 5 and 7 feet tall. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Constructed Resilience

You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage. In addition to this, you are immune to disease, you don’t need to eat, drink, breathe or sleep and magic can’t put you to sleep.

Broker's Rest

When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal.

Bright Energies

Your inner form is made out of bright blue arcane energy, and if you choose to not cover it up it casts a bright light in a 10 foot radius, and dim light for another 10 feet.

Specialization

You gain two skill proficiencies of your choice.

Integrated Tool

Choose one tool you’re proficient with. This tool is integrated into your body, and you double your proficiency bonus for any ability checks you make with it. You must have your hands free to use this integrated tool.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice. Brokers often learn the languages of the races they usually trade with.
