Homebrew Zorian Species Details

Similar in nature to the physique of Dragonborns, Zorians possess unique properties that the sanctuary of Dragons granted them over time in their newfound world. Over time, the skin of the Zorians started to descale in favor of an almost crystalline hardening. This metamorphosis also allowed Zorians to access powers still unknown to them, manifesting their inherent breath weapons into Force, Thunder, and even Radiance and Necrosis. As a Zorian, your original descent is something often respected across Zora, sometimes even to the point of jealousy...

Zorian Traits

Your ancient heritage manifests in a variety of traits similar to the Dragonborn of other worlds, but not identical.

Increase one ability score by 2 and increase a different one by 1, or you increase three different scores by 1.

Young dragonborn grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 15. They live to be around 80.

Size

Dragonborn are taller and heavier than humans, standing well over 6 feet tall and averaging almost 250 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Zorian Ancestry

You have draconic ancestry. Choose one type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestry table. Your breath weapon and damage resistance are determined by the dragon type, as shown in the table.

Draconic Ancestry
Dragon Damage Type Breath Weapon
Amethyst Force 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)
Crystal Radiant 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)
Emerald Psychic 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)
Sapphire Thunder 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)
Topaz Necrotic 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)
Diamond Cold 15 ft. cone (Dex. save)

Breath Weapon

You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Psionic Mind

You can telepathically speak to any creature you can see within 30 feet of you. You don’t need to share a language with the creature, but the creature must be able to understand at least one language.

Damage Resistance

You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.

Ancestral Flight

Starting at 5th level, you can use a bonus action to manifest spectral wings on your body. These wings last for 1 minute. For the duration, you gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed and can hover. Once you use this trait, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and a special dialect of Draconic (Zorian). Zorian is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
