Homebrew Batfolk Species Details

Humanoids with bat-like traits, often found underground.  Just like bats, they take to surface when night falls and the skies darken.  Bat-folk use their flight and ability to blend in with the shadows to hunt Underdark-native wildlife.  They commonly live in small tribes, often taming giant spiders to aid their hunts.

Batfolk Traits

As a bat-human hybrid, you thrive in darkness. With your dark fur, you can easily become one with the night, fitting seamlessly with the dark corners of the environment and being extremely difficult to spot.

Darkvision

You have darkvision to a range of 120 feet.

Sneaky

You have proficiency in the Stealth skill.

Night Stealth

When you make a Dexterity (Stealth) check made to hide in darkness, don't take darkvision into consideration when determining how obscured you are to a creature.  In darkness, you can add twice your proficiency bonus when hiding, instead of any proficiency bonus you would normally apply.  If you already add twice your proficiency bonus to a Stealth check, add +4 to the check.

Sunlight Sensitivity

You have disadvantage on attack rolls and Wisdom (Perception) checks when you start your turn in direct sunlight.

Bite

Your fangs are a natural weapon.  It counts as a melee weapon attack and deals 1d4 piercing damage on a hit.  You add your Strength modifier to the attack and damage rolls with this bite.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Alignment

Batfolk generally keep to themselves and shy away from the company of other creatures.  They kill Underdark wildlife for food and act to ensure the survival of their tribe.  Many are neutral, sometimes tending more towards the chaotic side.

Size

Batfolk typically range between 4'6'' and 5'5".  They are furry but slim, with their wings making them look thicker than they actually are.  Many batfolk weigh between 100 and 140 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Flight

You have a flying speed of 40 feet. To use this speed, you can’t be wearing heavy armor.
