Homebrew Android Species Details
“I've got no strings so I have fun
I'm not tied up to anyone
How I love my liberty
There are no strings on me”—Pinocchio
The first warforged were mindless automatons, crafted to do specialized work. Eventually, the same skills used to create those mechanical creatures that vaguely resembled humanoid’s in shape, we used to create the first androids
Crafted with mechanical bodies, but carefully decorated so as to near-perfectly mimic another humanoid race, these creatures stand between the warforged and the humanoids as a race all their own.
Living Steel and Stone
Although they were manufactured, androids are living humanoids. Resting, healing magic, and the Medicine skill all provide the same benefits to androids that they do to other humanoids.
While they do not need to eat or drink to survive, they were built with the ability to do so nonetheless, and some androids even find pleasure in the act, tantalizing their sense of taste with various foods throughout the world.
Android Personality
Unlike their warforged cousins, androids have souls and as much a variety of emotions as any other humanoid. For some, hiding these emotions is easy, while others find it more difficult.
While androids are created by humanoid hands, they have an individuality that the warforged often lacked. In many cases, this leads them to choose to augment their bodies later in life, much as other creatures get tattoos or piercings or dye their hair to give themselves a certain look. Some androids seek out ways to alter their appeared sex or race, if they feel as though what they were created with does not fit them.
Wandering for Purpose
Some androids find themselves content with whatever purpose they were created for, but many are filled with a burning need to go. The destination is rarely known to the android. They only know that they seek something, and to stay is to never find it.
Some find purpose in a job, complex or menial. Others seek out information with the desperation of a creature trying to find answers. Still others wander for years, seeking something they do not know until they find it, but always with the burning hope that they will.
