Homebrew Spiderfolk Species Details

Spiderfolk

The spiderfolk are a race unknown to most, if not all, of the world. They hide deep in the Underdark and only leave in dire emergencies. The occasional drow that discovers their society will find that they will never leave.

Thin and Secretive

Spiderfolk have an extra set of eyes, dark and faded skin colors, four limbs that end darker and hairier then the rest of their bodies. Besides those features, they are fairly similar to humans in appearance. They use this to their advantage whenever they leave their society, wearing covering clothes to pass of as a human or a drow. They stand between 4 to 5 feet tall and are very thin. They tend to keep most of what they know a secret, being that they do not trust others not of their kind.

Their secluded nature makes them very antisocial, only feeling open when they are around their own kind or if they know an idividual well enough that they can feel comfortable around them. This also prevents people of other cultures from learning the origins of their race and city location.

Stable and Long Lived

Their home city, Arachniapolis, is hidden by the camouflaged trap door leading to the city's entrance. The city is built of carved rocks and webbing from the spiderfolk. Their homes are adhesed to the walls of the underground cavern, armed with traps for any intruding the town on the cavern floor. The city is lit by magic orbs made by the city wizards.

The queen of the city is the only one allowed to bear children, and only one of her many children may live in the queen's home to become the next queen. This family line is given the title "Succession of Motherhood" to signify their role in balancing the population and caring for the city inhabitants.

There is a story told to the young of the spiderfolk to explain why they keep secrets to the outside world. The story goes, "Once, there was a mighty queen who ruled a city on the land. She was proud of this city, claiming it impenetrable due to it's magic defenses, that no one could go through it without her willing it so. But one day, vicious folk arrived with an army and a mighty wizard, who destroyed the magic defending the city and pillaged it of its gold and food. The queen had no choice but to hide deep in the underdark, hidden from all others so another attack could never happen."
