Homebrew Undead Fairy Species Details
Fairies who have lived and died, now returned to the land of the living as undead beings. They are not bound to any necromancer, no lord, or demon. It is unknown what causes these fairies to return back to life, but whatever it is, it sustains them much like a lifeforce.
Undeathly Appearances
The Undead fairy's appearance can range anywhere from completely zombified to merely glazed over eyes. The common factor between all Undead Fairies is the white markings that trail across their arms, the phantom wings and skin that is cold to the touch. Unlike most fairies, they are unbounded from any kind of other creature, often losing their bug like traits during death. Many will distort their forms upon returning to the living, adding arms, eyes, ears, mouths, even given themselves tails. There is no limit to how distorted their forms may become.
Many Undead Fairies will often decorate themselves in symbols of the dead- from skull and bones, to coin and stone.
Living Presence
Despite the dead to the title, Undead Fairies are still counted amongst the living- much like the living, they are able to feel, get hurt, heal and die again. Only the wings on the Undead Fairy are able to pass through physical objects, with great concentration. Their living presence hides the fact that they are undead, allowing them to seamlessly slide back into society, unless they are around those that knew them before death.
For that reason, an Undead Fairy will avoid places they once knew.
Bleak Outlook
These fairies have lived entire lives and died- the standard rules that many would get hung up on are meaningless to an Undead fairy. They know that all are equal under Death's watchful gaze. They recognise no hierarchy, no kings or queens- all they care about is how quickly someone marches towards Death, and if they can slow it down, or in some cases, speed it up. Money holds very little meaning to them.
A Wound That Cannot Be Healed
Having died, each Undead Fairy carries a wound that cannot be healed- both mentally and physically. It is their greatest fear, a source of great turmoil for most- for others, it is where they draw their strength. Either way, the wound that cannot be healed is the only remaining connection the fairy holds to their former life, a reminder they cannot return to it.
Undead Fairy Traits
Each death is to their own, each distortion unique to the individual, there are however across the board similaritiesLanguages
this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy. The “Quick Build” section for your character’s class offers suggestions on which scores to increase. You can follow those suggestions or ignore them, but you can’t raise any of your scores above 20.
Life Span
The typical life span of a player character in the D&D multiverse is about a century, assuming the character doesn’t meet a violent end on an adventure. Members of some races, such as dwarves and elves, can live for centuries. Fairies and harengons, however, have a life span of about a century.
Height
As a fairy, you are small
Flight
Because of your wings, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed. You cannot use this flying speed if you are wearing medium to heavy armour, of if you've phased your wings.
