Homebrew Dragoblin Species Details
Because every species that can produce viable offspring WILL produce viable offspring in DnD, a sub-species/new race was eventually created that was a combination of the dragonborn and goblins. Due to extreme prejudice against goblins in most areas, this race is fairly rare, although you can find dragoblin groups scattered around the planet.
Dragon and Goblin Heritage
Dragoblins show physical characteristics of both races, with the majority of their appearance being draconic in nature and their height being almost solely derived from that of a goblin. Unlike dragonborns, many dragoblins do have tails, an odd mutation that no one is sure of the origins of (and also because it makes no physical sense for normal dragonborns to not have a tail, so I changed it here). Dragoblins come in a wide range of coloration, derived from that of their draconic ancestor, but there is often a greenish undertone beneath the scales. More strongly built than goblins but not nearly as strong as dragonborns, dragoblins typically stand about 3 - 4 ft. tall and weigh around 50 lbs. They have five fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot, with fingernails similar to talons but mostly fingernail-like.
Close-Knit Families
Due to the rarity of the race as a whole, it has yet to establish a fully realized culture, as most other races have. However, many dragoblins adopt the same cultures as their dragonborn or goblin ancestors, preferring to stay in close-knit clans or tribes rather than individual nuclear families. Most dragoblins who are born into a clan of other dragoblins will never leave the clan, both because a sense of family and dedication is strong in the dragoblin culture, and because the outside world is often very dangerous for dragoblins. However, whether or not a dragoblin born from a dragonborn and a goblin parent will stay with their family or seek out a clan is purely dependent on the views of whatever clan or group their parents were/are a part of. Most of the time, unfortunately, both the parents and their child will be banished from their clan.
As mentioned before, dragoblins are often fiercely protective of both their biological family and their clan. Most clans are extremely wary of outsiders and do their best to stay hidden from the outside world, purely because they are often met with hatred and prejudice, which has shaped their culture as a whole many times.
While those who leave their family or clan and go out on their own for some reason aren't hated by their clan, it is very rare for someone to even want to leave, not only because of how they might be treated by others but because of the closeness of their family group. The expression "it takes a village" when regarding childcare is essentially most dragoblin clan's motto, with children being raised almost equally by both their parents and other members of the clan. This kind of child-rearing is what creates the strongly-knit relationships that are a staple of the still-growing dragoblin culture.
Dragoblin Names
Because of their parentage, dragoblins have almost no names that are exclusive to their race. Those born from a dragonborn and a goblin parent will often have either a traditionally draconic or goblin name, while those born to dragoblin parents will either have a draconic/goblin name or just a name that their parents overheard from somewhere. Similar to both warforged and dragonborn childhood names, many dragoblins will be named after an everyday object / something in nature or an adjective that describes their personality. Shorter names are often very common (with three syllable names showing up the most).
As for male vs. female names, there's really no difference. Almost all dragoblin names are unisex, and those that aren't are usually derived from a dragonborn or goblin name. Clan names are usually derived from a nearby land fixture or the closest town / name of an area.
