Homebrew Bearkin Species Details

Bearkin are humanoid creations with traits similar to bears. 

Bearkin Traits

Your Bearkin ancestry grants you the following traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Age

Bearkin grow and age at a similar rate to humans, reaching maturity at around 16, and living for 60-100 years. 

Size

Bearkin are somewhat larger and bulkier than humans, and they range from 6 to over 7 feet tall. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Thanks to your naturally keen eyes, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Resilience from Strength

You can gain temporary hit points equal to your strength modifier as a bonus action. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. 

Deadly Maw

While Bearkins hands are more akin to a humans than a bears, their powerful jaws and fangs remain very much bearlike. You can use your Maw to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with it, the bite deals 1d6 + your strength modifier piercing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. Additionally, you may use your bonus action to make a single unarmed strike with your Maw against a target you are grappling. 

Keen Smell

Bearkin have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on smell. 

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Druidic, typically a secret language granted upon the druidic circles, Bearkins closeness with nature has bestowed them with the same gift.
