Homebrew Alcatrone Species Details
Formerly one of the most powerful races of the world, now a shadow of their former glory. Human in appearance, minus the gaping hole in their chest, the veins of different minerals through their skin, pliable like flesh, and the primordial, swirling effigies of magic swirling in their chest cavities, Alcatrones are considered a race of men with a biological inclination to magic. With a spellcasting focus running through their flesh, a source of magic in their bellies, they are powerful entities.
Once seen as a race too dangerous to be kept alive for their magical affinity, a siege was made on their homeland which made their species near extinct. Nowadays, they drape themselves in long, flowing robes and clothing that covers their skin and is dark enough to blot out the glow coming from their chest, attempting to blend in with Humankind.
Alcatrone Traits
Despite their appearance closely resembling Humans, their Core, or source of magical energy in their chest, as well as their metallic veins, grant them several benefits.Ability Score Increase
Your Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma Score increases by 1, and you can select another Ability Score to increase by 2.
Age
Alcatrones reach adulthood around the age of 25, and can live as long as 800 years.
Alignment
Due to their history, many Alcatrones have held a grudge against many of the world's races, often twisting them to be Evil or Neutral. It is rare to find a Good-aligned Alcatrone.
Size
Alcatrones are between 5 and 6 feet tall and weigh between 220 and 300 pounds. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your Movement is 30ft.
Core Truesight
Alcatrones can use their Core to sense the magical energy around them. Once per Long Rest, through Concentration, you can maintain 30ft. of Truesight for up to 10 minutes.
Magic Core
As an Alcatrone, your life is fueled by the magical Core in your chest, the swirling primordial effigy of magical energy. You are capable of using your Core, as well as the metallic veins in your skin to perform magic without the use of a Spellcasting Focus. Furthermore, you subconsciously enchant your unarmed attacks to deal an additional 1d4 Force Damage with magical properties.
Magical Resilience
As an Alcatrone, your lifeblood is magic. Once per Long Rest, if an enemy creature performs a spell that inflicts damage, you can use your Reaction to absorb the damage to instead replenish your Hit Points equal to half the damage you would have taken by absorbing the energy directly into your chest. This effect cannot be done with a spell that is Necrotic in nature.
