Homebrew Dragon wrymling Species Details

True dragons are winged reptiles of ancient lineage and fearsome power. They are known and feared for their predatory cunning and greed, with the oldest dragons accounted as some of the most powerful creatures in the world. Dragons are also magical creatures whose innate power fuels their dreaded breath weapons and other preternatural abilities.

Many creatures, including wyverns and dragon turtles, have draconic blood. However, true dragons fall into the two broad categories of chromatic and metallic dragons. The black, blue, green, red, and white dragons are selfish, evil, and feared by all. The brass, bronze, copper, gold, and silver dragons are noble, good, and highly respected by the wise.

Though their goals and ideals vary tremendously, all true dragons covet wealth, hoarding mounds of coins and gathering gems, jewels, and magic items. Dragons with large hoards are loath to leave them for long, venturing out of their lairs only to patrol or feed.

True dragons pass through four distinct stages of life, from lowly wyrmling's to ancient dragons, which can live for over a thousand years. In that time, their might can become unrivaled and their hoards can grow beyond price.

Proud Dragon

Dragons walk on all fours unless they need to cast spells they don't stand on their hind legs. Dragons have a head, four legs, a pair more humanoid in the front and a pair of legs in the back, they have normally only one pair of wings but some dragons are know to have two pairs or more, and a tail. Dragons believe they are a supreme race, they are very proud believe anything of value should belong to them. Dragon wyrmling's are about 400-800lbs. They are about 5-8ft tall. Normally a wyrmling stays with its parents till their a young dragon other wise they are 0-5 years old.

The blood of a particular type of elements run very strong through dragons. Theses Dragons often boast scales that more closely match those of their element—bright red, green, blue, or white, lustrous black, or gleaming metallic gold, silver, brass, copper, or bronze.

A Dragons Hoard

To any dragon there hoard and lair are the most important even more than their life. Lust after treasure, and this greed colors their every scheme and plot. They believe that the world’s wealth belongs to them by right, and a dragon seizes that wealth without regard for the humanoids and other creatures that have “stolen” it. With its piles of coins, gleaming gems, and magic items, a dragon’s hoard is the stuff of legend. However, chromatic dragons have no interest in commerce, amassing wealth for no other reason than to have it.

Dragon wrymling Traits

Your draconic heritage manifests in a variety of traits you share with other dragons.

Draconic Body

Your form makes most normal gear completely alien to you. You cannot wear normal armor, and instead must purchase or craft it as if it were barding for a mount. Your claws are also not as strong or dexterous as normal humanoid hands, and you must grasp items between your front feet. You may only attune to one item that is held or worn on your hands at a time, and you may only hold one weapon or object at a time. You have disadvantage on attacks made with weapons that have the do not have the Light property. If you are holding a weapon with the Light property in your claws, you may take advantage of Two-Weapon Fighting along with your maw, though you may not add your ability modifier to the damage of that weapon.

Treasure Horder

Dragons have a natural affinity for gold and treasure. Whenever you make a Wisdom (Perception) or an Intelligence (Investigation) check related to searching for gold or treasure, you are considered proficient in that skill and add double your proficiency bonus to the check, instead of your normal proficiency bonus. You also have the flaw "Inherent Greed: whenever you see treasure, you have a compulsion to grab it and claim it"

Gliding

You are born with a set of fledgling wings, which will develop over time. Until you are old enough to fly you can use as wings to slow your fall or allow you to glide. When you fall and aren’t incapacitated, you can subtract up to 60 feet from the fall when calculating falling damage, and you can move up to 2 feet horizontally for every 1 foot you descend.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Powerful Build

You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

Shift

As an action you shift into any humanoid race. You lose glide, elemental resistance, breath attack, bite and talon traits in this form. You are able to use clothes, armor and weapons that this race would be able to use. You do not gain any racial trait from this form. As a bonus action you can return to your true dragon form. You drop what you are holding, you destroy any bags, belt, clothes and armor you are wearing or carrying on you. If you have a bag on you the bag is destroyed unless it is fitted for both forms, if the bag is destroy the items inside fall to the ground.
