Homebrew Centi Species Details

Centifolk as a race of humanoids who are mixed with that of a centipede body, boasting at about 10 feet long with their centipede bodies taking over half the height, while the humanoid section of the body often has humanoid skin colours, the lower underbelly can be blue, red white or a variety of colours, while the shell is often the opposite colour of the underbelly 

Once bitten

Long ago, the centis used to be rather kind and prosperous, living amongst the lush forests and lands of Usila with large clans forming into what many could call a hive, others a kingdom. With a love for many many others, however one event caused their entire homeland to be razed and reduced to nothing but ashes and fire, many of their own Kin burned alive by what people only know is an ancient red dragon. After seeing the many dangers of the surface world they were forced to hide underground and in the under dark mainly, adapting to the grounds bellow while adopting a consistent fear of the surface, and fire.

 

Twice Shy

Centis are normally very reclusive and scared creatures, having large amounts of difficulty trusting anyone but their own kin, they often attempt to scare away potentially enemies using their monstrous bodies rather then fight if necessary. Many have developed a fear of fire as well, either from their parents telling them or because of them witnessing the event itself, to them fire is nothing but a wave of destruction, something that only wants to feed. To their own kin or to the few others they often trust they are often very curious and interested creatures, seeking to potentially find out some new things about the very objects they hold unless it seems dangerous 

 

Colours and Lights

Despite living in the under dark most of the time, the centis have never developed darkvision nor many ways of seeing in the dark, as such their sensitive appendages is how they mostly get around in the dark, however it’s not uncommon to see one of them using one of the many magical mushrooms in the under dark reshaping them into lamps, lights and other useful pieces. Due to them refusing to use fire this is their most used light source, however they enjoy these glowing mushrooms, while fashion isn’t something often seen amongst their citizens, priests, officials, leaders, generals and more are often seen wearing clothing of their choice, headdresses made of the glowing mushrooms for priests or Masks and armor created by the crystal found for example

 

Magic and Devotion

Centis are often lovers for magic, most seeing it as a gift, others as a tool, it’s used often nonetheless. Divine magic amongst the centis isn’t rare, however they don’t have many gods, due to them never learning about godhood after the raze. The gods they often worship are as follows 

 

Erisbo: God of growth and fertility, often seen as a centi with human brown skin, black underbelly and white carapace, with a staff in one hand and flower in the other. Often seen as the god who worships the growth of plants and nature along with growth of people. Clerics who worship him are often of the nature, life or grave domains 

 

Umbros: Goddess of Magic and beauty, often seen with pale skin, a pink underbelly and a dancing blue carapace, twirling in a spectacle of magic and design, she’s the most often worshiped god for reasons many don’t understand. Clerics who worship her are often of the arcana, knowledge or trickery domains.

 

In terms of the arcane, it’s not rare to see the centis using it, all of them have an innate connection to the weave thanks to their lives in the underdark, allowing them to easily connect to the magical world. However fire magic is often banned in their communities, due to their past and due to them being bugs

 

Centi names

Centis often name their children with the starting letter being E or A and the end being A or O for reasons unknown, unless pronounced in their way of speaking, typically having a few clicks here and there, it sounds weird to some

 

Male names: Enros, Abuo, Elos, Melous

Female names: Aroua, Entua, Croto, Lilio

You increase one ability score of your choice by 2, then increase a different ability score of your choice by 1

Age

Centi's mature at around age 5, and can live for over three centuries 

Size

Centi's have long, Centipede like lower bodies, this with their humanoid Torso makes them about 9 feet long, your size is medium

Speed

you have a walking speed of 35 feet and a climbing speed equal to your walking speed

Antenna communication.

You know the message cantrip. When casting message in this way you do not require components

Keen Touch

due to having many appendages, all of which rather sensitive to the touch you have advantage on wisdom (perception) and intelligence (investigation) checks that rely on touch

Shifting Shell

while you aren’t wearing armor, your AC is 13+ your dexterity modifier, you can still wear a shield and gain this benefit.

Heated Body

due to the natural heat of your body, you can resist the cold. You have advantage on saving throws against extreme cold
