Homebrew Bospterran Species Details
Bospterrans are a bat-like folk. Their appearances range from the more snubby-nosed, smush-faced bats to the longer, more vulpin-faced kind. They possess small fangs and can often drape their wings over them similarly to a poncho. Normally standing around 4-5 feet tall, some have been spotted as small as 3 feet and tall as 6. They are normally slim in build, with tufts of fur around their necks and large ears. Their wings, attached to their arms, are often mistaken for a poncho as they drape around them similar to one. As a result of this and their slim nature, they tend to wear tight clothes and refrain from jewelry, though that's not to say they won't wear them on occasion.
Most Bospterrans are mischevious but ultimately good-natured, generally falling in chaotic good and chaotic neutral categories. Despite this, their dexterity makes them good as thieves for those who go against the more positive customs of their race. They hold a belief in a deity of their own alongside the Amaranthine - Chirodessa, a Bospterran Goddess of Bounty and Music. In times of desperation they might become tempted to rely on their ability to draw blood from their opponents, but a true believer would frown upon these vulgare methods of self-preservation.
Bospterran Traits
You have the following racial traits:Ability Score Increase
Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Size
Batfolk are about 4-5 feet tall. They have thin, lightweight bodies that weigh between 80 and 100 pounds. Your size is Medium or Small. You choose the size when you select this race.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 25 feet, and you have a climbing speed of 25 feet.
Glide
Using your winged arms, you can slow your fall, and glide short distances. When falling you can use your reaction to spread your arms, stiffen your wings, and slow your descent. While doing so, you continue to fall gently at a speed of 60 feet per round, taking no fall damage when you land. If you would fall at least 10 feet in this way, you may fly up to your movement speed in one direction you choose, although you cannot choose to move upwards, landing in the space you finish your movement. You cannot glide while carrying heavy weapons or wielding a shield (though you may drop any held items as part of your reaction to spread your arms). You cannot glide while wearing heavy armor, or if you are encumbered.
Darkvision
You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness as shades of gray.
Heightened Senses
A Bospterran's sense are adapted to discerning the truth of things by using a unique form of echolocation to pick up on minute details. This requires intensive training, so they are only able to specialize themselves to one enhanced skill. You gain proficiency in one of the following skills: Insight, Investigation, or Perception. Depending on your choice, you also gain one of the following benefits:
- Insight. You ignore the advantage and disadvantage caused by the Invisible condition of other creatures within your Darkvision range.
- Investigation. You have advantage on saving throws against illusions and on Investigation checks to examine them.
- Perception. You can treat Heavily Obscured areas within your Darkvision range as if they were only Lightly Obscured.
Vampiric Bite
You have sharp fangs that enable you to make natural bite attacks. You can choose to bite as an unarmed strike that deals 1d6 points of piercing damage, which can be calculated using either your Strength or Dexterity modifier for both the attack roll and damage bonus.
When you attack with this bite and hit a creature that has blood, you can draw upon their lifeforce to regain hit points equal to the piercing damage dealt by the bite. You can heal yourself with this bite a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Encourage individuality by choosing small or medium.
Darkvision
Bats aren't blind.
Heightened Senses
Allow customization while adding a different way to interact with the broader benefits of Blindsight - you always have one part of it active AND at its best, not the weird rule interpretation the DM would have to make.
Vampiric Bite
Dhampir Bite without the skill buff. Allows them to be unique as well as a descendant of this race.
---
Currently allows Custom Origin for ASI, as well as STR / DEX for the bite.
Still missing proficiency based number of uses for healing to be coded in.
