Homebrew Blood-Breaker Species Details
“They look like us and sound like us, but know that they are no longer our kin. Allowing those who are willing to betray their own ties to live amongst us is no different than allowing a giant spider to watch your children."
Those that are willing to toss aside the natural order and cross the blood boundary, these are who we call blood-breaker. Foregoing their own blood to split into another, blood-breakers are often looked down upon by the public as monsters. No one is born a blood-breaker, they are instead made one by seeking out a willing ritualist.
Birth Blood
Blood-Breakers were not born as such, they became this way through a ritual. They can come from any humanoid race but most often appear from humans and halflings. As such, their appearance is often synonymous with that of their birth, with maybe a couple changes as a by-product of the ritual. These changes are not always guaranteed and vary from blood-breaker to blood-breaker and may include things like abnormal proportions, slit iris', or even discoloration. Any racial traits they would have from their birth race are removed, with the exceptions of Ability Score Increase, Languages, Age, Size, and Speed.
Breaking the Blood
The ritual used to create blood breakers is not a entirely safe, so those that wish to have it performed must be extremely dedicated to the idea. Not only is the mortality rate of the ritual so extremely high, there is also no known reversal that doesn't have the even higher mortality rate of one-hundred percent. The dedication to blood-breaking may be a result of kinship felt closer to that of another race than their birth race, a desire to gain the power of a race they see as stronger, among many other reasons.
While most blood-breakers don't regret the ritual, there are a select few who do. Wishing to find the cure to an otherwise irreversible curse they have placed upon themselves. This mind-set is especially prevalent on the unlucky few who did not choose this life at all, but rather were used as non-consensual test subjects to an aspiring ritualist.
Blood-Breaker Names
Blood-Breakers often keep their birth names, so the naming conventions of their birth race usually still apply. However, some Blood-Breakers may go by different names as a way to signify how they have changed, or to escape their former identity.
AGAINST THE ORDER
Blood-Breakers are often seen as abominations by Lawful figures, leading to common distrust and prejudice. This mind-set can be found across all alignments, but those who are not as strung up on the natural order will more often judge the reasons for a Blood-Breakers choice to forego their bloodline, as oppose to the act itself, if at all.
Blood-Breaker Traits
Blood-Breakers gained the following racial traits as a result of the ritual.Birth Race
You were not always a Blood-Breaker. Choose 1 race with the Ability Score Increase, Languages, Age, Size, and Speed racial traits. This race is considered your Birth Race and you gain the general appearance of that race as well as the Ability Score Increase, Languages, Age, Size, and Speed racial traits.
Transmutation Immunity
The ritual has bound you so closely to your chosen kin that there is no known spell to break you away. Transmutation spells that would change you have no effect.
Infertility
As a by-product of the ritual, you are left incapable of producing children. The changes to your bloodline are too drastic and chaotic to be compatible with any other creature.
Magic Vulnerability
You have disadvantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
