Homebrew Dragon Toad Species Details
Dragon Toads are large dragons taking the shape of the average toad. being 10ft long and 4ft high and weighing between 2000-3500lbs. This species has existed for an estimated 2 million years, changing very little throughout this time, modern zoologists claim they had their own language around a thousand of years ago. They have been bread to be war mounts, Often being separated from their parents at an extremally young age and not learning the language. This continued throughout 1459 years, the babies being separated never learn the language of their parents. Continuing this has made the language lost to time. many language experts have tried to learn the language, but decided it was useless since it's never used anymore. They still have not lost their intelligence that made them be able to learn a language so they have picked up small commands used by the creatures it grew up with. Many Dragon Toads have learned to understand language throughout the worlds which is unusual for any creature.
Dragon Toad Traits
Your draconic heritage manifests in a variety of traits you share with other dragonborn.Crushing Blow
Due to not having hands it cannot use any weapons. instead it uses its thick front legs to inflict blows that many have called as strong as a weapon. Gain +4 to your hit roll and roll 2 d8 as a bonus to your unarmed strike. However you are unable to use weapons
Maul
Dragon Toads can use their largemouth to grapple with a target sized medium only, attempting to shred them by shaking around violently. Grapple action deals 1d4+2 damage with advantage and restricts the Dragon Toad to one powerful attack which weakens the more its hit. You focus all of your energy into violently shaking the victim around in your mouth dealing 1d4+2 multiple if uninterrupted. The attack goes for 4 times if it has not been hit by anything other than its target by the next turn. a d8 must be rolled for each time attacked if a 1 is rolled the target is harmlessly dropped to their feet.
Ridable
One ally can choose to mount you, gaining your speed and are stuck to your position until the rider dismounts. An enemy can mount you with different results. If an enemy tries to mount you, you react by trying to bite or throw away the unwanted mounter 20ft away with 1d20+2 with advantage using strength to hit and 1d4 for damage. You cannot attack anyone who has mounted you, but you can attempt to shake them off as an action using 1d20 using strength.
Once mounted, the rider is stuck to your position and you both gain 80 percent and half your jump height. The ally can control your movement as its own but you can choose to disobey if you choose to. if an enemy tries to hit your rider they have disadvantage on hitting due to your protection, but if they miss the rider, they can attempt to hit you instead.
Swallow
If an ally is within 5ft you can swallow them into your huge mouth, which comes with many benefits. an ally can hide inside your mouth. if they hide well enough, any surrounding person who didn't see the person being swallowed can only see the Dragon Toad and not the person inside. Can be used as a more discreet but slower way of transport than Ridable, as the Dragon toad cannot use stampede while a person is Swallowed. The inside of a Dragon Toad's mouth has been described as feeling like being near a campfire, allowing for easy rest and protection from the cold. Can be used with Spit out
Evolved
The Dragon Toad has developed a thick glaze over its eyes protecting its retinas from being burnt out . This greatly reduces sight, making it short sighted. To make up for its lack of sight it's sense of smell and hearing has greatly improved to compensate. being able to smell spilt blood up to a day after it was spilt and which direction it came from and can hear light disturbances up to 100ft away even when sleeping, it cannot smell while asleep though. Sound and smell attacks deal an extra 2 damage against it while attacks needing the Dragon Toad to see something have increased chances of failing by 3
Spit out
the lava globules have a range of 10ft-150ft. Any shot over the range of 80ft has disadvantage. requires food having been eaten at least 3 hours ago or there will be no lava to spit out (gets rid of the Well Fed buff)
Size
Dragon Toads are much larger than the average creature and usually weigh between a shocking 2000-3500 pounds. Your size grants you a +4 buff to strength. Your size is large (Too big to be reasonably lifted from the ground)
Stampede
Your base walking speed is 50 feet (40 using ridable). If you have been running for over 40 feet, you reach a blistering speed of 75 feet (56 with ridable). running into an enemy while Stampede is active will cause you and your rider to deal an extra 3 damage on melee strikes due to your speed. if the bonus damage from stampede is used stampede cannot be used for the remainder of the encounter.
Flamethrower
shoot a short ranged stream of fire. Dealing damage in a straight line in 20 feet. each creature in the area of effect must make a saving throw for constitution being above 13 or take 2d6, damage is halved on a successful constitution save. Increases damage to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level and 5d6 at 16th level. has unlimited uses as unlike dragonborn, the Dragon Toad closely resembles a regular dragon
Damage Resistance
Your thick scales deflect half piercing damage done to you everywhere except your belly. You aren't fully immune to fire damage as your kind never needed it to survive. You take half damage from fire based attacks.
Hungry
Dragon Toads require constant feeding and love food. If you haven't eaten within 6 hours during the daytime you receive the Hungry buff. If you haven't eaten in 48 hours you enter a state called Very Hungry. Well fed grants 1 extra damage to all ranged attacks and allows you to use Spit Out. Hungry grants 1 increased melee damage, and makes you look for food where available. Before entering the Very Hungry there are 30 minutes where the Dragon Toads starts to panic. While in Very Hungry the Dragon Toad cannot differentiate friend from foe and your attacks get extremely vicious, gaining 5 extra damage on melee attacks, and cannot control yourself. you can override Hungry once for 2 hours per long rest.
Dragon Toads are mainly herbivores. their favorite foods are mangoes, apples and other fleshy sweet fruits but can even eat grass. The only time they ever eat meat is when they are in their Very Hungry state
