Homebrew Teletubby Species Details
Whimsical and dreamy simian creatures. Arcane scholars have all but confirmed they originate from the Plane of Dreams, crossing over and appearing in highly unexpected places. Their brightly colored fur and typically jovial personalities lead many to assume they are simple beasts, but this is far from the truth- teletubby have an innate grasp on mystic phenomena, and a knack for getting to the bottom of difficult situations.
Their connection to the Plane of Dreams keeps them in tune with their own and the dreams of those around them, and they are able to project dreamy images and sounds from a special patch on their stomachs. The curiosity of the teletubby leads them to depart from their home plane, seeking out mysteries and adventure in the wider cosmos. Being surprisingly large, they are able to tackle many threats physically and mentally, with their determination for whimsy and compassion carrying them through dark times.
Size
From art and second-hand descriptions, most assume that teletubby are smaller in size, like a dwarf, or gnome; this is incorrect. They are Medium in size- young teletubby not done growing are around 6'6" tall, and most adults are between 7'4" and 8' tall. There are even reports of larger teletubby around 10' tall, but these haven't been confirmed. Juvenile teletubby may be on the chubby side, but adults are leaner and they're all surprisingly light, weighing in at about 180 to 240 lbs.
Appearance
The teletubby are humanoid in shape, but have some large differences from humans. They're more densely furred, like a monkey, and this fur tends towards bright and pastel colors, such as purple, red, yellow, green, and azure. Their faces are also a little more simian, but have less hair than some natural primates, and seem human at a glance; their eyes are usually brown or black. The most conspicuous feature on their heads is their antennae, which is furry and often curled into a distinct shape. It is not prehensile, but can straighten out a bit when the teletubby is on alert and looking for something. Their stomachs also have less fur and have smooth skin, which is much lighter in color than their other skin and almost reflective at times. It is from these patches of skin that teletubby use some of their paranormal abilities.
Age
Originating from the Plane of Dreams, it is difficult and borderline pointless to try measuring the age of teletubby. About all that is discernible is that they are indeed mortal and can age, and there are young teletubby and older teletubby.
Alignment
Whimsical and care-free, teletubby tend strongly towards being Chaotic in nature, acting as their curiosity and conscience direct with little regard for laws that contradict such. It is difficult for teletubby to be truly malevolent, and so there are also many Good aligned teletubby, altruistic and compassionate individuals that care for the communities that accept them.
Religion
Most teletubby are very spiritual. Their own faith is animistic and personal, and focuses on dream interpretation and finding joy in everything. Its central figure is referred to as the Ever-Dream, an entity that is both a place and a dream and a dreamer that teletubby claim is their homeland beyond the Material Plane. There are also many teletubby who have taken to other faiths and gods- in particular, gods of the sun and wilderness are popular among those who have stayed outside the Plane of Dreams. They are open to learning of the faiths and traditions of others, and perhaps adopting some of those practices into their own.
Names
Teletubby names are hard to trace, and often combine elements from other unrelated languages, perhaps taking fluid elements from an Elvish word or the predatory stops from a Draconic phrase. A few that have been pegged as native Teletubby are Tinky-Winky, Dipsy, Po, and Laa-Laa.
