You brandish the weapon used in the spell's casting and make a melee or ranged attack with it. This attack ignores disadvantage. On a hit, the target suffers the weapon attack's normal effects and then becomes marked by a glowing aura of divination magic until the end of your next turn. If an attack targets the creature before then, the attack adds 1d4 to its attack roll, and the spell ends.

This spell's damage increases when you reach certain levels. At 5th level, the initial attack which you make as part of casting this spell deals an extra 1d8 force damage to the target on a hit, which increases by 1d8 at 11th level (2d8) and 17th level (3d8).
