Your mere presence can cause things to go wrong. You may choose an object within your reach that can fit inside a 2-foot cube. That object is spoiled in some way, such as rusting iron, rotting wood, stagnant water, or decaying meat. Casting this spell does not reduce the effectiveness of an object that is not food or drink. For example, casting this spell on the hinges of a trapdoor would still cause the trapdoor to work as before.
