You hurl fist-sized ball of suppressive necrotic energy at a creature you can see within 45 feet. Make a ranged spell attack. On a hit, the target takes 2d4+2 Necrotic damage and has 0.25% chance (identical to rolling two 20s) of falling into an incapacitated state for 3d4 days.
Creatures in this state are unconscious, cannot be awoken by any normal means, and appear dead if non-magically investigated. A DC 18 Intelligence (Arcana) or DC 20 Intelligence (Medicine) check reveals that the target's soul persists, but is magically suppressed. Any spell that revives a creature ends the condition, regardless if the spell would normally fail due to how much time has passed since the target entered this state. Constructs, Undead, Legendary Creatures, and creatures immune to necrotic damage are immune to the incapacitating effect of this spell. Creatures with resistance to Necrotic damage instead have a .0125% (three 20s) chance of suffering the incapacitating effect.
