The spell caster can place this spell on any single, nonliving, inanimate object, usually a book, staff, door, or item of treasure. If that item is disturbed or moved at any later time, the caster will be alerted. This alert occurs even if the caster is asleep or unconscious, but not if the caster is turned to stone or otherwise unable to think.
The original caster will recieve a mental image when the watchware is activated. This mental image is of the item and all items and creatures within 10 feet of it at the time of activation. The mental image generated by the spell lasts only a turn and does not include any sound. The image interrupts concentration and disrupts spellcasting in progress, but does not disturb the caster in any other way.
The spell is activated when the item is disturbed for any reason, whether someone touches it, pokes it with a pole, a cat walks on it, or an earthquake knocks it over. The item protected by this spell radiates a faint aura of magic. If a dispel magic is cast upon the item, the spell will be triggered. The spell with activate only once, then the spell is spent. A spellcaster can have as many active watchwares equal to the spellcaster's level.

Posted Jan 6, 2019Ever have one of those moments where you're making your own homebrew adventure and you need something magicky to happen? But you can't really think of any spell or combination of spells to make it happen the way you want it, so you just kind of wing it and have it just happen the way you want it to happen because.....magic?
This is 2e spell I found it the FR Adventures book. Wouldn't surprise me if there was another version like this or close to it in some other book. Just putting it down because it is exactly what I need for my adventure. I was just going to let the wizard bad guy magically know his secret book was being monkeyed with with no spell explanation. But then I was just curiously pages through some of my 2e stuff....and BOOM! here was this spell that is exactly what I needed. And more importantly, I have a proper spell level assigned instead of making it up myself and screwing up some game balance down the road. I labelled it a ritual because it seems like a ritual spell to me and not something a wizard would do on the fly. I also just gave it to the wizard class, because it seems like a meticulous kind of spell that wizards would thrive at. It just seems so....wizardy.
Anyway, hope you like it, and I hope no one else made it, because that would be embarrassing.
