This spell uses the skeletal remains of a corpse to create a projectile weapon. Choose the corpse of a creature within range. Fragments of bones from the corpse splinter off and fly toward another selected target within range. On a successful ranged spell attack, the target takes 2d8 damage, half necrotic, half piercing (rounded up for necrotic damage).
The corpse a small creature has enough material to cast Bone Shard 1d4 times before deteriorating beyond use. Larger creatures provide an additional 1d4 uses per size category greater than small. The caster of the spell must have knowledge of a corpse's location to be used to cast the spell. Corpses in hard cover such as an enclosed coffin, a block of ice, or buried in mud cannot be used. Corpses buried in soft cover such as loose soil, shallow water, or an open sarcophagus can be used.
At Higher Levels. At 2nd level or higher, you may make an additional ranged spell attack when you cast this spell for each slot level above 1st. You can attack the same or a new target. Each additional attack requires a use of material from a corpse.
