Damage/Effect
You emit a soul-shattering wail. Every creature within a 30-foot cone who hears the wail must make a Wisdom saving throw. Those that fail lose half their remaining hit points and become frightened of you; a frightened creature repeats the saving throw at the end of its turn, ending the effect on itself with a success. Those that succeed take 3d10 psychic damage and aren’t frightened. This spell has no effect on constructs and undead.

Posted Apr 24, 2022How is this a cantrip? Cantrips aren't supposed to deal less damage on a success. Also, against weaker creatures, succeeding on the save actually causes MORE damage than failing, because half of the puny creature's hit point maximum would be fairly low. I would recommend changing the amount of damage on a success to a quarter of the creature's current hit points. Either way, it doesn't seem right to be able to potentially deal triple digit damage to a high-CR creature with a CANTRIP. Also, the 30-ft. cone is too broad an area for a spell that can be cast infinitely. Overall, love the concept of damage a creature a certain percentage of it's hit points, but the mechanics just seem fumbled. Most importantly, you should bump up this spell's level. It doesn't make sense for a spell to occassionally deal more damage to a creature that succeeded the saving throw, so you should calculate the save success damage by percentage as well.
