You attempt to catch a spell that has been cast either at you or an area you occupy. The casting time of the target spell must be 1 action.
Make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 10 + the spell's current level. On a success, the initial casting of the spell has no effect. You prevent all of the effects of the spell including the full area of effect for area spells, or any additional targets of the spell. If the spell was twinned, or in some other way duplicated, you only catch the copy of the spell that targeted you. You are now holding the unresolved spell.
On your next turn, you may use an action to channel magical energy into the spell you are holding and direct it at another target. Choose a new target (or new targets) for the spell as though you had cast it at one level higher than it was when you caught it. If the target spell was 9th level you may still catch and redirect the spell, but the level will not increase beyond 9. If you choose not to take this action, you may let the spell fizzle out harmlessly.
If you fail to catch the target spell, or you lose concentration on this spell, the caught spell resolves at the original level with the original targets. For area of effect spells, the area is centered on your square instead.
* - When a creature you can see casts a spell with a casting time of one action that either targets you or includes you in its area of effect.
