Bonfire of Insanity

A spell lost to the ages, Bonfire of Insanity is a 10th level Epic Magic inaccessible to mortals by divine law.

A massive bonfire of bones is lit during a rainstorm. Upon casting, the smoke of the bonfire rises into the sky mixing with the rain clouds. This foul arcane ritual corrupts the Weave staining it black with negative energy darkening the sky and bloating the clouds with boiling blood. When the ritual is complete, searing scarlet rain begins to fall within a 1 mile radius of the fire. The rain continues to pour for 1d4 hours.

Upon hitting the ground, the rain causes corpses, even those that were already skeletal, to rise as a ghoul. Humanoids that are hit directly by the rain must make a (DC 18) Constitution saving throw or contract a disease. Those that succeed on their initial save must repeat the save after each additional minute of exposure. Humanoids infected by this disease are incapacitated and turn into a ghoul starved and hungry for flesh after twenty-four hours. Curing this disease was only possible before the transformation is complete and only by magic at least as powerful as a heal spell. Those transformed into a ghoul can only be restored by a wish spell.

The material components for the spell is a bonfire of a diameter of at least 10 ft made of bones of at least twenty humanoids that are consumed in the process of the casting, and therefore, are not in danger of rising as ghouls. Bonfire of Insanity can only be dispelled by a control weather spell cast at 9th level.

The spell confers the caster immunity against all damage except force damage during the spell's casting. The caster is not safe from the affects of the spell.

The undead that were created through Bonfire of Insanity are under the control of nobody, including the caster unless the caster wields the Wand of Orcus.
