A spell lost to the ages, Aumvor's Fragmented Phylactery is a 10th level Epic Magic inaccessible to mortals by divine law.
Fragmented Phylactery allows a caster, a lich, or a wizard attempting to become a lich to expand their number of phylacteries beyond the limit of a single vessel. The spell could be used in either of two ways. The spell could be cast on an existing phylactery to split it into multiple ones or it could be cast to create various items to be turned into phylacteries. While this spell could be cast multiple times, there was a limit to how many phylacteries could be created at once; the number depended on the age of the dragon soul used to power the spell. 1 for every 500 years of life.
Unlike normal phylacteries, only the lich's original phylactery requires souls to stave of the degradation of the lich's power. All other additional phylacteries are self-sustaining. If the lich's original phylactery degrades, so does the lich's powers into that of a demilich. This happens no matter how many phylacteries the lich possesses. If the lich's original phylactery is destroyed, the oldest phylactery created by this spell functions as the original and requires a steady supply of souls to prevent degradation.
