Compass Bolt

You send a bolt of lightning, or subtly electrify, a target on the same plane, making them easily trackable by you.

• You can cast this spell as an action, making a ranged attack roll against one target whom you know the name and face of on the same plane. The target takes 5d8 lightning damage on a success, and half as much damage on a fail. On either a success or a failure, the target sees and remembers the image of your face.
• You can cast this spell over the course of 1 hour to a target whom you know the name and face of on the same plane. At the end of the casting, the target does not take any damage, and does not see an image of your face.

At the end of either method of casting, you immediately know the direction and approximate distance of the target, but not the exact location. This effect requires no concentration to maintain, and only ends once you see the target in person, or if the target dies.
