You must spread the stardust component of this spell over a flat surface (wall, floor, etc) before beginning this ritualistic magic.

Once you complete this ritual, the painted surface fractures and opens a portal, allowing the caster to physically step through into an astral space, a maneuverable vehicle within the Astral Plane. A caster's astral space resembles a place or vehicle familiar to the caster. If an astral space is a place, some surface in the astral space provides a porthole view of the Astral Plane surrounding it (the spell fails and the casting is wasted if you are already on that plane).

The caster of this spell can choose to embark upon their astral voyage with up to 6 passengers of their choice. Creatures that try to cross through a portal and embark upon an astral voyage unwarranted must succeed on a CHA saving throw versus the caster's Spell Save DC. On a failure, the astral space is destroyed, as well as the portal created, stranding the caster and the false embarkee at the current location of the astral space. On a success, the unwarranted creature joins the caster and gains control, reshaping the space. The caster can willingly relinquish control to the unwilling embarkee if it wishes to do so.

Your astral space can freely travel through the Astral Plane for as long as you wish, though you are not unseen by denizens of this plane while within your astral space. It may also pass through a single portal there which leads to any place on the plane you cast this spell from. If you return to the plane you were on at a different location, you can continue to maneuver within your astral space for up to 1 hour, exploring unseen before being pulled back through the Astral Plane and your portal, at which point the portal closes and the spell ends. Alternatively, you may choose to disembark your astral space as an action at any time, ending the spell, closing the portal and jetisoning yourself into the location your astral space was inhabiting. You may also choose to end the spell early as an action, pulling you back through the Astral Plane and your portal, at which point the portal closes.

A successful dispel magic spell used against an astral space in the Astral Sea or the portal created ends the spell, jetisoning creatures from the astral space at the location the astral space inhabited.

If one person casts this ritual on the same surface for 30 days, the portal becomes permanent. A permanent portal has one operator, the caster of the ritual or the most recent figure to wrest control from the previous operator. Permanent portals can be opened or closed as a bonus action, requiring no spell components, and allow the caster to roam through other planes of existence as well for up to 6 hours before returning to the portal. When an operator of a permanent portal returns through their portal or jetisons themselves from their astral space, their portal shuts, but can be reopened again by the caster when they return to the physical location of their portal.
