Contested Spell

You attempt to contest control of a spell being cast by another caster. Perform a contested skill check between the target caster and the contested spell caster. The contested spell caster must announce what level they are casting Contested Spell at. Each will roll 1d20 and add the modifier from their casting stat to the roll. The contested spell caster will add the difference between the Contested Spell level and the target spell level (Contested Spell level minus the target spell level) to their roll. Casters with proficiency or expertise in Arcana may add their proficiency/expertise to their roll.

If the contested spell caster's total roll exceeds the target caster's total roll then the target caster's spell fails. The contested spell caster may choose to:

• Alter the target of the target caster's spell.
• Take the spell slot the target caster was using to cast their spell.  The spell fails to execute and the contested spell caster gets the spell slot the target caster was using.
• Inflict 1d6 points of psychic damage on the target caster for each spell level the target caster was using for this spell.

This spell may not be used to counter a spell cast by an object (scroll, wand, ring, etc...)
