The Charge Wand with spell has eight variant versions, each variant corresponding to one of the eight schools of magic. Each variant version is a separate spell and each variant must be individually learned and mastered. As such, a wizard might know the Charge Wand with Evocation variant but not know the Charge Wand with Abjuration variant.

By using Charge Wand with the wizard is able to recharge a magic wand under certain constraints. Charge Wand with can be cast as a second level spell or as a higher level spell if the caster expends a higher level spell slot. Casting Charge Wand with through higher level spell slots allows the caster to charge a wand with more powerful spells. For example, to charge a Wand of Fireballs the Charge Wand with Evocation variant must be cast using a level 4 spell slot (i.e.: at least one level higher than the spell being stored in the magic wand). Naturally, it is not possible to charge a Wand of Fireballs with any spell other than Fireball.

When casting Charge Wand with the wizard must also know the spell the wand is enchanted to store, for example in the case of a Wand of Fireballs, the wizard must know the spell Fireball. Moreover, the wizard have any necessary material components for the other spell. The caster will expend both the spell slot for Charge Wand with as well as the spell slot for the other spell to add one charge to the wand.

At the DMs discretion, to make the Charge Wand with spell function correctly the caster must also know the cantrip ritual Aurae Purification or have another person who does know it assist in the charging process.

Unless otherwise specified by the DM a magic wand charged via Charge Wand with may hold a maximum of 7 charges.

The practice of charging magic wands is not without danger. The risk of destroying the magic wand can be as great as 30%, however, various precautions can be taken to mitigate these risks. Risk mitigation can be accomplished by; using more valuable material components, refraining from storing the maximum number of charges; working with wands made from rare or special materials; being a higher level wizard; or using divining magic to gain clairvoyant visions of failure. The DM can determine the probability of failure as desired.
