You conjure up a cascade of ice and snow that batters and buries creatures in its area. The area can be up to 50 feet long, 20 feet wide, and 10 feet tall. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 4d8 bludgeoning damage and 4d8 cold damage and is knocked prone. On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and isn't knocked prone. A creature knocked prone by this spell is restrained in ice until the ice melts or they use an action on their turn to escape (DC 10 athletics check).
The area of this spell is covered in ice and snow until the snow melts. This area is difficult terrain and it extinguishes any unprotected flames.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, the bludgeoning damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 5th.
