You hurl a twisting beam of energy at one creature in range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a miss, the spell ends. On a hit, the target takes 2d8 force damage. If there is a second target within 10 feet of the first, you may attempt to chain the beam to that target. Make a second ranged spell attack with disadvantage. On a hit, the new target takes 2d6 force damage and the first target takes another 1d8 force damage. If there is a third target within 10 feet of the second, you may attempt to chain the beam to that target as well. Make a third ranged spell attack with disadvantage and at a -5 to hit penalty. On a miss, the spell ends. On a hit, the new target takes 2d4 force damage, the second target takes another 1d6 force damage, and the first target takes another 1d8 force damage. Additionally, on hitting the third target, you regain one sorcery point, up to your maximum.
A creature can be targeted only once by each casting of this spell.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the first, second, and third targets take and extra 1d8, 1d6, and 1d4 force damage on a hit, respectively.
